Four Fix-Anything Makeup Tricks

Laura Leiva
While many of us have plenty of self confidence when we go out, chances are there are little things we wish we could tweak, change or enhance. Instead of going the way of Heidi Montag, there are many ways we can use makeup to minimize a nose, enhance the eyes or even something as simple as cover a blemish before a date. Here are some essential 'fix anything' makeup tips for you to try:

Widen the eyes

For bigger looking eyes, the first thing you should forget is lining them with black liner. Choose a colorful, vibrant eyeliner shade to actually make the eyes appear larger. If you don't like colorful liners, try using a charcoal gray color on the upper lash line only. Then, apply a light-colored highlighter or shimmer eyeshadow to the inside corner of the eye to bring in light to the face. Curl the lashes, concentrating on the lash tips to open up the eye. Use a lengthening mascara to finish off the look.

Plump up Lips

Aside from moisturizing your lips to keep them kissable, you can create the illusion of bigger lips by simply adding a clear, shimmer gloss in a small dot in the cupid's bow. The cupid's bow is the area right below your nose, in between the two peaks of the lips. Just a slight amount will attract light, making the lips seem bigger. Finish off by applying a lipstick that offers plenty of shine to reflect even more light off of the lips.

Cover Blemishes

No one likes to have a blemish on the skin, but there are ways to hide it until it subsides. Instead of applying concealer and patting it into the skin with your fingers or a cosmetic sponge, opt to use a concealer brush instead. The brush creates a precise coverage over the blemish, allowing you to hide it before applying foundation. Use a foundation and loose powder to set the makeup over the blemish.

Even Out Eyebrows

To keep eyebrows evenly filled, makeup artists suggest using a wax or crème formula, which adheres to sparse spots better than a pencil or powder. Choose a formula in a shade that is the same as your brows, and fill them in with short, feathery strokes in the same direction the hair grows in. Be sure to fill in end to end to keep the brows uniform. One additional way to keep brows uniform is to have them groomed by a professional. When you do it at home, you may increase the chance of over-plucking or doing too much to only one brow.
