Four Freelance Writing Job Websites for Paying Gigs

Find Great Writing Opportunities for Free

Armando Roggio
Finding steady freelance writing work is never easy, but there are some very good free websites that can make finding a paying project easier.

Bookmark these websites and make a habit of visiting them at least once each week, and you'll find many new writing opportunities.

Writer'sWeekly

Writer'sWeekly first came online in 1997 and has been publishing a great list of paying markets for freelancers each Wednesday ever since.

Writer'sWeekly's publisher Angela Hoy divides each week's listings into two categories-"Paying Markets," which catalogs publications with ongoing needs for good freelance content, and "Freelance Jobs," which typically lists one-time freelance projects or writing assignments for other than standard articles. The "Paying Market" listings typically link back to the Writer'sWeekly forum while the "Freelance Jobs" often link off to other sites, including Craig's List.

I have personally found good paying freelance writing gigs on the Writer'sWeekly site.

Journalism Jobs

Many writers think of JournalismJobs.com as a job board for full time writing and editing positions, but the site also lists dozens of very good paying freelance writing jobs each week with new posts updated daily.

Compared to the other freelance websites, Journalism Jobs often posts long term positions. For example, a recent post offered a position for an interviewer. It paid $200 per interview and promised regular work on an ongoing basis.

Jobs.ProBlogger

ProBlogger is part of Darren Rowse's b5media Blog Network. Rowse began blogging in 2002 and started to make so much money that in 2005 he started b5media. I think about his success every time I find a new gig on Jobs.ProBlogger.

While you won't become a millionaire from the freelance job listings you find on the site, you can get regular work. On average, a new gig gets posted about once or twice a day. Most positions pay by the post and $10 to $20 for 400 words is standard.

Telecommuting Jobs

This is one ugly website. According to the homepage, Telecommuting Jobs was first developed in 1996 by iVentive. My guess is that the site's design has not been updated since. But in spite of the aesthetic badness, Telecommuting Jobs often has some really interesting freelance job opportunities. There was a recent offering for a writer to create a daily email newsletter. But be sure to pay attention to the listings. They are undated and a few could be stale.

Thanks for the listing. I wonder what this list is like at the present time. I'll find out.
