Four Good Reasons to Use a USPS Box

United States Postal Service is a Good Idea

Beverly Bright
Have you ever considered using a USPS box? Here are four very good reasons for using a United States Postal Service box number for receiving mail, rather than a home address.

Secure mail:

A form must be filled out to rent a post office box, showing proof of identification as well as your physical address. Only law enforcement personnel can be given access to this form. Mail is delivered to your unique address, thus ensuring delivery. Identity theft is a major concern and a secure mail location helps prevent theft of bank records, credit card records and personal checks received through the mail.

Mail boxes located on the front of homes or in rural settings at the roadway are open to vandals. Rural mailboxes are almost guaranteed to be vandalized three times a year. Vandals strike when school begins, when school ends and Halloween. Although there may be other times "bashing" occurs, or the box is completely removed, replacement is troublesome and expensive. A post office box eliminates this hazard.

Post office boxes are in various sizes and can accommodate large quantities of mail. If a package is too large for the box, the post office will hold the box, notify you of the arrival, and all you must do to accept the package is to stand in line. Packages left on the front doorstep or on the side of the road are not likely to stay long!

Separate business mail from personal mail:

Do you have a home business? You may not want to have your business mail delivered to your home, or you may want to separate business from personal. Post Office Box mailing locations give a street location for the business. The post office box number is generally shown after the street address and gives the impression of a suite number.

Privacy:

Post Office Box mailing locations give a sense of privacy to your home location. For personal reasons many people do not like giving out their physical home address. Maybe they live alone or had the difficulty of people using the address to come to their home. Some people prefer a greater sense of anonymity. Whatever the reason, a post office box eliminates those problems by ensuring privacy.

Permanence:

Another major reason for renting a post office box is that it provides a permanent address. This may be handy for individuals who move frequently or travel a lot. It gives greater ease of mail pickup by third parties, such as friends or secretaries. With a post office box, physical location is no longer important.

Conclusion:

A post office box located at the USPS station can be very convenient. It is easy to find and fast. Prices vary from location to location, but a yearly cost is guaranteed to cost less that replacing a rural box three or more times a year. Contact your local United Stated Post Office to confirm prices.
