Four Great Spin-off Ideas for the Amazing Race

Those who love "The Amazing Race" can't help themselves. They are so enamored of the show that when they aren't watching it they are pondering scenarios for other forms of the "Amazing Race" in years to come when the time comes to put the last episode of the current series in the vault and move on. It's just hard to let a good thing go. There probably are as many ideas for sequels or spin-offs for the "Amazing Race" as there are fanatics who watch it . But if you haven't started your own list yet you might want to consider these four great spin -off ideas for the "Amazing Race"

For example why not give "The North American Amazing Race" a try. Sure its fun to watch a group of crazy Americans trying to find their way around such places as Malaysia or Romania and there really doesn't seem to be a lack of interesting places to visit. But wouldn't it be fun to totally reverse the concept and have citizens of foreign countries ( who had English speaking ability) come to North America and watch them race around from Nova Scotia to Mexico City to Chicago. It seems like the kind of show that would give American's a good view of what foreign visitors have to deal with on this side of the pond. It would also put the spotlight on how North Americans do, or don't, give assistance to foreigners. In the process viewers would have a look at some of the most interesting travel locations in their part of the world.

Then there is the spin-off that could be titled "Amazing Race: Senior Circuit" in which all competitors would be 55 or older. While this would definitely change the kinds of stunts that contestants would have to complete, it would also mean that viewers wouldn't have to worry about which senior participant in the current format is going to have some kind of major physical distress during the show. Honestly that just isn't fun to watch. Yes this kind of show would probably skew the demographic of the viewers but there really are a lot of senior citizens out there with television sets who buy products. Shouldn't they occasionally get a show geared to their interests that doesn't include Jessica Fletcher?

"All Celebrity Amazing Race" seems a natural spin-off. Success has come to several shows that feature celebrities on a regular basis doing something other than what they are used to doing. Again the activities would have to be geared so as not to overly favor top athletes or top anything for that matter. But just as folks like to see celebrities dance or skate, they probably wouldn't mind seeing them travel and compete either. Just think of how much fun the two Harlem Globetrotters brought to the original "Amazing Race". Wouldn't you love to see Hollywood types, politicians or sports world figures give the race a shot.?

It might seem a minor change in the original "Amazing Race" but what about simply changing up the numbers a little and calling the spin-off series "Three"s Company Amazing Race". Instead of having to listen to a couple that is having a hard time dealing with one another, just consider what adding another person to the mix would do. The logistics of this could be a little tricky in terms of activities that they would have to complete and the gender organization would also be a bit ticklish. Still aren't you getting a little tired of the snipping or is it sniping between twosomes? Wouldn't a third person loosen things up a little bit?

"Amazing Race" is a captivating and mildly addictive show. It's something to look forward to on a Sunday evening. The basic idea creates interest and the contestants bring the show to life. Why not give a good idea new life by considering one of these possible spin-offs ?

  • Amazing Race is a great series that deserves a spin-off or two
  • Changing the number of competitors and their ages could give a different look to the show.
  • One spin-off could bring foreigners to North America to compete.
