Having some form shelter from the sun is always top on the list for my family when we go camping. Being able to relax under some shade in the heat of the day is a nice thing to look forward while camping. There are many items that can provide cover and shade from sun ranging from portable canopies that provide cover for a large area for numerous people, all the way down to umbrellas that provide personal protection from the sun.
A place to put trash is a must in my books. For one thing trash on the ground can attract insects and rodents like ants and mice and even larger animals like bears. Another thing is that a clean campground is a safe campground. Cleaning the trash from the campground can prevent people from tripping or slipping on trash and injuring themselves. If you are not certain as to whether or not there is a trash barrel at your camping site bring enough trash bags to store your trash and take to a trash dumpster later.
Injuries can and sometimes will happen no matter where you are at. And most camping sites are not close to a hospital and may take a long time for medical help to arrive. Which is why having a first aide kit is very important when camping. Having a first aide kit will give you the proper materials needed to clean, sterilize and treat injuries while help arrives and in some cases and hopefully most cases being able to immediately treat the injury can prevent the need for a costly trip to see a doctor.
The last thing I will mention is a weather radio. Good weather can turn into bad weather in the blink of an eye and catch you off guard. So having a small portable emergency weather radio can provide you enough time and warning to make a decision concerning the approaching storm. Being well informed can make the difference between life and death when it comes to the outdoors and the weather.
These four things mentioned in this article are in my opinion some of the most important and helpful things to have that make camping a little safer and more enjoyable for everyone. After all enjoying yourself and having a good time is what camping is all about.
