Splash Around:
Wild River Country: is Arkansas' largest water park. The park was closed in 2008, but is now back open to the public and ready for a fantastic 2009 season. Wild River Country hires hundreds of teenagers each year. Beginning at age 14, teens can work with a valid work permit and parental permission in grounds cleanup and bussing tables at the snack bars and restaurants.
Teens over the age of 16 can apply to be cashiers in the gift shops, be hired for guest services where they sell Season and Day passes, and welcome guests to the park; or take on the challenge of making snowcones, dipping ice cream and renting tubes! Those who are excellent swimmers may be interested in a job as a life guard. Wild River Country trains and certifies all of their life guards for wild rides and slides like The Cyclone, Black Lightening, The Sidewinder, The Vortex or The Vertigo!
Applying is as easy as deciding which pair of flip flops matches your newest swim suit! Simply download the PDF Employment Application, fill it out and fax it to Wild River Country's Human Resources Department. Then get ready to make some money and have some fun! The park also offers its employees great incentives and prizes including Arkansas Travelers baseball tickets, movie passes and coupons for free food!
Batter up:
Summer wouldn't be summer without baseball. Since 1960, Little Rock has been home of the Arkansas Traveler's. This minor league team, now part of the Anaheim Angels organization plays its home games at Dickey Stephens Park, a facility that's only 2 years old!
Jobs are available for local teens in concessions, food services, ticket sales, ushers, and grounds. Applicants must apply in person in the Travelers front office at 400 West Broadway in North Little Rock.
Swing with the Monkeys
Is your dream to be a Camel Loader? If so, the Little Rock Zoo may be the place for you! Of course, if assisting small children onto our hump backed friends is not for you, the zoo also offers employment in its gift shops, snack bars, as parking lot attendants and membership sales, as well as operating the newly renovated Over the Jumps Carousel and renting strollers and wheelchairs to zoo patrons.
With more than 725 different animals in residence, the Little Rock Zoo is part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, While seasonal employment does not include jobs that involve working directly with the animals. However, with thousands of families and school groups coming through the gates each year, the labor force of local teenagers is essential to the day to day operations of the zoo.
Plant it in the Parks:
If you love being outside and spending time with children, then the Little Rock Parks and Recreation Department may have just the job for you! The city of Little Rock is still hiring full and part time positions at its five aquatics centers for life guards and concession workers as well as part time employees for their Summer Food Programs, and their Youth Playground Program. Summer Employment applications can be downloaded on their website, but must be turned in to the prospective department to which you want to be employed. (i.e. if you want to work at the Southwest Aquatics Center, you wouldn't turn in your application at Stephens Park.
Youth ages 16-18 may be interested in applying to be part of the Parks Pioneer Program. Participants work outside with the Parks Full time Crew doing everything from setting up and taking down events such as River Fest and Adopt-a-Park; mowing the grass, planting flower beds and repairing playground equipment.
Whether you're a High School Sophomore that just turned 16 and is looking for their first job, or you're a College Senior home for the break and anxious to fill your pocket with cash before heading back to your University next fall; you certainly don't want to spend the summer among the ranks of the unemployed.
With these suggestions of job opportunities, Little Rock Teens won't have to!

Post a CommentGreat suggestions, and even if you don't live in the area, there are probably equivalent attractions in your own home town. It's going to be a hard summer for teens to find work, I predict.
