If you've got an extra $15,000 or $20,000 sitting around and you want to spend it in one night on a fantasy hotel suite experience, I've found four mind-blowing over-the-top experiences just waiting for your American Express Black Card.
As a travel writer and editor, I'm constantly asked about my favorite places to visit. While there are many countries on my fantasy list, my real favorite, my real fantasy trip would be to spend a day, or a few days, in one of these billionaire playgrounds with every need attended to.
Here are my top four luxury, over-the-top hotel suites:
The Penthouse at The Fairmont San Francisco
I will start with my favorite, the Penthouse at The Fairmont San Francisco. This enormous, 6,000 square foot suite takes up the whole eighth floor of this opulent grand hotel.
The $20 million dollar, recently renovated suite comes with a team, all working at your service. Guests get their own butler, their own housekeeper, a private chef, a massage therapist to alleviate any stress you may feel and a personal trainer. Now that's service. The suite is a mansion in itself, with three large bedrooms, a living room complete with a grand piano. You get a formal dining room (big enough for 60 friends) and an incredible two-story circular library with a rotunda ceiling featuring a star map in golf leaf. My favorite would be playing pool in the billiard room, which is completely covered in Persian tile. The suite also features huge balconies overlooking San Francisco, the bay, the Golden Gate Bridge and other landmarks.
The Penthouse suite is $15,000 per night, including food and wine. You also get Tiffany china, silk sheets, original artwork and antiques.

Ultra-Luxe Beach Village Escape at The Hotel Del Coronado
Next fantasy suite experience is actually a beachfront villa at the historic Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. For $25,000, you get their Ultra -Luxe Beach Village Escape. I like this experience because it's all-inclusive, yet ultra-luxurious. You get four nights in one of the hotel's exclusive oceanfront cottage suites, these are mini-houses in front of the hotel right on the sand. They are self-contained, multi-bedroom villas with their kitchen, pool, along with top level furnishings and amenities.
The package includes the services of a personal butler for your stay, along with the use of the hotel's limousine on demand. You get couples massage and bath butler service in your cottage. A bath butler turns on the water, makes sure it's warm and adds bubble bath for you, you also get facials and other spa treatments. You get a private dinner in the hotel's 1500 OCEAN restaurant in the wine room one night, another night you get a private dinner, fireside, in your cottage prepared by the hotel chef. Night three brings a sunset private yacht dinner cruise, followed by a private wine tasting. Final night dinner is a romantic dinner on the beach, under a private tent, serenaded by a violinist. Wow. You also get private beach yoga sessions, surfing lessons and a private cabana every day at the pool.

Royal Plaza Suite at The Plaza in New York City
Next fantasy hotel suite is in New York City, the Royal Plaza Suite at the Plaza Hotel. For between $20,000 and $30,000 per night (depending on the season), you get a 4,950 square foot, three bedroom suite at the best address in Manhattan. Accessed through a private elevator, the suite was once the grand hotel's grand presidential suite and was occupied by actual Presidents.
Of course you get the services of a private butler and a private chef and although there's no private trainer for you, the Royal Plaza Suite has it's own private gym. You also get gold-plated bathroom fixtures, flat screen TVs and even free WiFi. The suite has a large commercial kitchen, a library and a formal dining room. There's a living room complete with a grand piano and the whole suite is decorated in a lush Louis XV-style.
Each of the three bedrooms are suites, with separate dressing and living areas and the master bedroom looks onto the Pulitzer fountain and Fifth Avenue.

Bernstein Suite at Hotel De Crillon in Paris
In one of the most historic buildings in Paris, in one of the city's most beautiful squares, the Place de La Concorde, is the Bernstein Suite at the Hotel de Crillon. The suite, considered to have the finest views in Paris, was a home-away-from-home for the famous composer, Leonard Bernstein. The magic of the suite is found in the two terraces, overlooking the Eiffel Tower, the Place de La Concorde and the city.
The 800 square foot suite has one bedroom with a lounge, dining room and living room, and yes, this suite also has a grand piano. Except this piano was frequently used by the suite's frequent guest and namesake.
The hotel is in a building originally constructed as a palace during the reign of Louis XV himself. In 1788 it was acquired by the Count of Crillon and retains his name. I believe this is the finest hotel in the world and yet it tries to remain under the radar. This is a hotel where the staff will look down on tourists trying to get a look inside (not allowed) and virtually ignore you if you don't dress nicely. But it's also a staff who will remember your every wish and preference and will surprise your children with a special gift basket or activity. Truly royal service. I've had the pleasure to stay in a "basic" room, which start at about $800 per night. The Bernstein Suite goes for $12,000 per night.
