Four Motion Games that Every Baby Will Love

Kimberly Sharpe
Babies adore motion. They find it soothing and stimulating. They like swings, jumpers/bouncers, vibrating chairs, and they love being rocked. Scientists believe that their love of motion is due to the prenatal motion they experienced inside the womb. Motion will sooth and calm a fussy baby.

However, when your baby turns 2 months old motion can also be about fun and games. Here are four activities to enjoy with your baby. I have played all these games with both of my babies. They adored each one of them and still do even though they are now toddlers.

1) Dance, Dance, Dance

Babies love music so put on a catch song and swoop your baby into your safe embrace. Now sway to the music. Dance and sing to your sweet baby. It will adore the feeling of the motion in sync with the music. Make funny faces at your little one and make the entire experience fun. This builds a deep love of dance and music in your baby from an early age.

Scientists believe that babies actually recognize the sound of music that they were exposed to in the womb. This music exposure seems to carry over after birth and will often even sooth a fussy baby by reminding the little one of the womb.

2) Dance In Front Of The Mirror

Babies like to look at themselves. This fascination grows as they age. So stand in front of the mirror with the music playing. Now dance so your baby can watch both of you. Sing and ask your baby who is in the mirror. Move your baby in close to the mirror and say, "Who's that baby in the mirror? That's you!" Your baby will love gazing at himself as you dance and it will give him a sense of self awareness as he learns to adore the music and dancing.

3) Horsey Ride

Set your baby on your knee and gently bounce while holding the baby securely. Remember to only gently bounce. Nothing intense or hard. Just a gentle up and down motion that is reminiscent of rocking. Sing about horses and babies. Make funny clip-clopping noises. All babies adore this game. My toddlers adore this game. They are always wanting to ride on my knee and play horse.

The game actually helps to teach your toddler balance while having fun.

4) A Bumpy Stroller Ride

Don't always stick to pavement during as stroller ride but head off road. Hit the gravel, hit a few speed bumps, down or up a hill. Don't go too fast and while you are strolling sing and tell your baby what is happening. As you go across a bump say, "Here's a big bump. Up and down we go." Your little one will adore the adventure of these strolling adventures.
