Four Natural Antibiotics You Already Know About

R. Elizabeth C. Kitchen

Many people do not like to take prescription antibiotics unless it is absolutely necessary and this is completely understandable. Of course, natural antibiotics aren't completely different if your goal is natural immunity, but they are "more natural" than pharmaceutical antibiotics. There are four natural antibiotics that you probably already know about, but have not thought to use for their antibiotic properties.

Oregano Oil

This natural antibiotic is touted to be the absolute best among all natural antibiotics. Of course, you must make sure that you choose a brand that is reputable to ensure a good strength and good product. You have probably already heard about this herb and may even have it in your pantry. However, did you know that it may help in treating infections like scarlet fever, cystitis, rheumatic fever and strep throat. Of course, if you have any of these infections, you must consult a medical doctor because they are very serious and you will need medical treatment, but this herb can help in healing you. I have talked to my doctor before when I have had strep throat and added oregano oil to my prescription antibiotic and it did speed up my healing time. It is not the best tasting stuff, but it does seem beneficial when added to traditional medications (granted they do not have an interaction warning - check with your pharmacist about this before taking them together).

Garlic

You probably had garlic at some point in the last month or so. I am personally a big fan of garlic, both to eat and for its many health benefits. Simply adding fresh garlic to your foods can provide you with the antibiotic benefits.

Olive Leaf Extract

This is both purported to be an antiviral and an antibiotic herb. It is also touted to help scavenge free radicals. It has been shown to be powerful in fighting microbes, so adding this to your arsenal when fighting off an illness will likely be beneficial. Just be sure to check and make sure it does not interact with any medications you are taking.

Green Tea

Green tea is really and truly a super tea. It is purported to have antibiotic properties in addition to a variety of other excellent health benefits. I personally drink green tea every single day - both iced and hot. Research has shown that this tea is particularly effective against certain oral bacterias, so if this is what plagues you, try swishing some green tea (make sure it isn't hot) in your mouth in addition to what your doctor recommends to aid in the healing process.
