Natural Flea Shampoo
There is a natural flea killer shampoo called Neem. Neem is a natural pet shampoo which is safe for both cats and dogs. Neem is applied like any other pet shampoo and helps to kill fleas and provide nutrients to feline skin. While skin care isn't as important for cats as it is for dogs, it is an important part of your pets health because a cats skin breaths and helps maintain their body temperature.
Nematodes
One of the best natural flea killers for cats are nematodes. A nematode is a microscopic worm which eats flea larvae. You can get nematodes at pet and garden stores. Place the nematodes around the perimeter of your house to stop most of the young fleas from entering. Make sure you place these guys either early in the morning or just before dark as neither nematodes or fleas can tolerate direct sunlight.
Soapy Water
Warm soapy water is a known deathtrap to fleas because fleas cannot swim or breathe in it. This is also one of the least expensive forms of natural flea killer for cats. To make this work, place a shallow dish filled halfway with soapy water near a nightlight to rid the room of fleas. You will want to do this when the cat will be out of the room for a few hours; you may need to block off the room so the best time for this is when you are home and can let the cat hang out with you.
Nonchemical Spray
Another category of natural flea killer for your cat is nonchemical spray. A nonchemical spray can be made of citronella, rosemary, wormwood, and peppermint oil. Put the spray in a mister and then apply lightly to your cats fur and along the inside corners of the house. These herbs are toxic to fleas but safe for cats when sprayed on the fur or around the house.
Avoid These Flea Treatments
While natural flea killers for cats are good, there are some which are harmful to cats. Pennyroyal Oil and Citrus Oil can kill fleas but are toxic to cats, this includes citrus peels such as oranges and lemons. These have been found to cause liver problems in cats. Essential oils, which are good for dogs, are not good for cats either because cats cannot absorb the oils and this can build up toxic levels in the bloodstream.

Post a CommentPlease do not use citronella oil on a cat. Please visit the product guide at Green Paws at http://www.greenpaws.org/products.php#O to see a list of essential oils that shouldn't be used on cats. Click on "o" and it will take you right there. I'm not sure that wormwood is safe, either.
