Four Simple Baby Travel Changing Mat Ideas

As many parents know, traveling with babies can be a bit of a challenge. One never knows when a dirty diaper will strike, which can sometimes mean changing your child in the backseat of the car. Or, if a restroom is available, most diaper stations are cold, hard, and unsanitary plastic. Here are four simple baby travel changing mat ideas that you can create to help.

Simple Baby Travel Changing Mat Idea #1: Pillowcase Mat

One quick and easy way to make a baby travel changing mat is to use a pillowcase. Insert a piece of half inch upholstery foam (available at upholstery supply shops and craft supply shops) into the pillow case. Cut a piece of no-sew adhesive backed velcro and attach it to the opening of the pillowcase to keep the foam in. This is a great mat idea, as the foam can easily be removed and the pillowcase washed.

Simple Baby Travel Changing Mat Idea #2: Recycled Rain Poncho Mat

The easily wipe able surface of an old rain poncho is perfect for creating a baby travel changing mat. Cut the poncho into two pieces approximately twelve inches wide by twenty four inches long. Spray one side of each piece with crafting spray adhesive and adhere the pieces to a piece of half inch upholstery foam. Tuck the ends as though you were wrapping a package to create a usable and easy to clean mat..

Simple Baby Travel Changing Mat Idea #3: Fleece Blanket Mat

An old fleece baby blanket is a great way to create a travel changing mat. Either cut the blanket into two even portions or use two small blankets. Stitch around the outside with a sewing machine, leaving a two inch portion at the top. Stuff the inside with a small amount of half inch thick quilter's batting. Stitch the small opening closed. This changing mat can be easily thrown in the washing machine for cleaning.

Simple Baby Travel Changing Mat Idea #4: Recycled Towel Mat

A recycled towel is another easy and inexpensive way to create a simple baby travel changing mat. Take two regular sized towels and stitch around the outside edge to join them together. Just like with the fleece blanket mat idea, leave a space to insert half inch thick quilter's batting. Stitch the small hole closed to secure the batting. Again, this is another easily washable travel changing mat.
