When you go ice fishing, you will certainly need a good pair of gloves to keep your hands warm. There are a few things you need to consider before buying a pair of ice fishing gloves. This article will give you a few tips.

Fit

One of the most important things to consider when buying ice fishing gloves is their fit. You obviously don't want them too loose or too tight. You will need to pay particular attention to how bulky the fingers are.

The fingers usually are affected by cold weather first, so you'll need to ensure they stay warm. However, bulkier finger designs will reduce your dexterity. Unless you plan on removing your gloves when drilling a hole or putting up your shelter, you'll need to be able to complete these tasks with them on.

Water

You will obviously be around lots of water while fishing. Therefore, it's best to choose a pair of ice fishing gloves that are waterproof. This is especially important if you're the type that reaches into the hole to try to land a fish. Wet hands will make the rest of your day very miserable.

Quantity

Speaking of wet hands, it's always best to have a backup pair in a convenient place. In case you get your hands and gloves wet, you can have a fresh pair waiting for you. Therefore, consider buying two pairs at the start.

Layers

Some glove designs have two layers. The inside layer can be made of fleece which helps keep your hands warm. However, fleece isn't waterproof, so an outer layer can have a shell that serves that purpose.

These are a few tips for buying ice fishing gloves. Make sure the fingers aren't too bulky so you'll be able to complete necessary tasks with ease. It's also a good idea to choose a pair that are waterproof. In case you get your first pair of gloves wet, you should have an extra pair on hand.
