Four Tips for Choosing a Ski Helmet

John Smith
Ski helmets are a great way to protect yourself when on the slopes. There are many dangers when someone is out on the mountain and a helmet greatly reduces ones chance of a head injury. Helmets aren't always mandatory on certain trails but they are mandatory on others. Almost all terrain parks and racecourses require the use of helmets because these areas are more dangerous then other parts of the mountain. There are hundreds of types, colors and size of helmets available. Some helmets are shaped to be more aerodynamic and some are just for safety. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when choosing a ski helmet.

The first tip in choosing a ski helmet is to find one that fits. Finding a helmet that fits your head correctly will help to insure comfort and warmth. Measuring your head with a string and then comparing that with a ruler is a quick and easy way to get the size of your head. This makes choosing a helmet when online a lot easier. When children grow older, obviously their head will grow, this may require them to need bigger helmets each year. Adults that are fully grown can usually keep a helmet for years before needing to replace it.

The second tip in choosing a ski helmet is to try it on. You can do this even if you order it online, however it may require you to ship it back. When in a store you can try on a variety of helmets to find out which one works best.

The third tip in choosing a ski helmet is to ask for help or read reviews. The employees at the store have all been trained and have knowledge of each and every helmet they carry. Having the employees' assistance will help you in deciding which helmet is best for your application. For this tip I would strongly recommend going to a ski and mountain sport specific store and not just the general sporting goods store.

The fourth tip in choosing a ski helmet is to pick a color that matches your clothing. Nobody wants to look like a fool, so don't buy something that doesn't match. If your ski suit is black you may want to buy a silver or black helmet and not a brown one. There are hundreds of different color options available. Almost every style of helmet has multiple colors, so if you cannot find the color you want at the store, just get the size and look for one on the Internet.
