Water
Horsetail plants are perennials that love water. They are best located in wet areas such as water gardens and ponds. You will need to water the plant on a daily basis to ensure that it is getting enough water to survive.
Soil
Your horsetail plant should be planted in moist soil. The soil should be rich in organic matter and have a pH between 4.5 and 6.5. You can plant it directly in the ground or in a container. Be aware that the plant can become invasive if it's planted directly in the ground.
Planting it in a container will help keep this problem under control. You need to make sure that the container has drainage holes in the bottom though.
Sun
Horsetail plants do well when exposed to full to partial sunlight. They can also survive bitter winter temperatures. The plants are capable of surviving temperatures as low as five degrees Fahrenheit.
Pruning
As mentioned earlier, a horsetail plant has a stalk that resembles a horse's tail. They can have a bright to dark-green color and are capable of growing between four and five feet tall. As the canes grow older, they will turn brown and dry out. To promote healthy growth, you will need to get rid of these old canes.
These are a few tips on taking care of a horsetail plant. They love water, so they're best suited to wet areas such as water gardens and ponds. Although you can plant horsetails directly in the ground, it's best to use a container to prevent the plant from becoming invasive.

Post a CommentI was given 2 pieces of Horsetail last night by my friend....A piece was leaning over,as it was broken,so I took kitchen shears & cut it the rest of the way off. Was told to lay it on it's side, cover with soil, and it might take root.....Will it?
Many thanks.
