Soil
Your hebe plant likely won't survive if you try to grow it in clay or wet soils. Instead, it needs well drained soil. They prefer soil that is slightly acidic but can tolerate more alkaline sands.
You shouldn't place mulch around them during the growing season. So, make sure you remove it during the fall, summer, and spring. You can put mulch down during the winter for added protection though.
Sun
Hebe plants grow best when they are given full sun. They can also tolerate being placed in part sun or shade. However, if hebe plants are grown in the shade, they won't produce as many flowers. The plant will probably become leggy too.
Food
You don't have to give your hebe plant food very often at all. Fertilizing it once a year will help increase flower production and help provide a better foliage color. During the late winter is the best time to give the plant fertilizer.
Maintenance
Some types of hebe plants have the tendency to get very leggy. Therefore, you will need to prune them on a yearly basis to keep the plant's compact shape in order. It's best that you prune sometime in the spring. Fortunately, these plants are affected all that much by pests and diseases, so you don't have much to worry about.
These are a few tips on caring for a hebe plant. Try to plant it in slightly acidic soil that is well drained. The plants have a better bloom when given full sun although they can tolerate part sun or shade. Fertilizing them once a year is usually enough.
