1. Involve your Significant Other
Start by discussing with your partner beforehand what kind of wedding vows you are both expecting. For example, how detailed and long they should be, what things you absolutely should not mention, etc. You don't have to show your partner the final result if you don't want to, but at least gather some general feedback from them before you start writing.
2. Put Your Heart into It
Romantic wedding vows are like poems - they come from the heart. With that said, you don't need to be a poet to write good vows. You just need to place yourself into an emotional state where the dominant feeling is your love for your partner. What would you say to them now to express how you feel about them? What would you promise to do to keep them with you forever? As you ask questions like these, you will likely think of some good ideas. Write them down as they come to you without stopping to filter the good ones from the bad.
3. Filter and Rewrite
By now, you should be looking at a piece of paper covered with desperate scribbles - definitely nothing that even remotely resembles romantic wedding vows! Now is the time to sit down and put everything you have written together and decide what elements are worth keeping. Do not mention any negatives. Remember that wedding vows are supposed to express your love for your partner.
4. Read It Out Loud
Now that you have your vows written down, it's time to actually read them out loud! Remember, you won't know whether your vows flow and sound nice until you've actually heard them. Read them out loud a few times and correct any issues you spot.
Remember that the form is just as important as the substance when it comes to writing romantic wedding vows. It is important to express your feelings on the big day - preferably without stumbling over words. This is why you must always write your weddings vows well in advance and polish them until they shine.
