Four Types of Solar Panel Mounts

There are various ways that you can mount your solar panels for them to produce power from the sun. Different types of solar panel mounts offer various benefits over their counterparts. This article will take a look at some of the different types of mounts that you can use.

Pole

One of the first types of solar panel mounts is the pole variety. They're very easy to set up, but must be in a location away from buildings or trees because the shadows will decrease performance. Pole mounts are also more convenient to adjust manually as the seasons change.

There are different types of pole mounts also. Some are designed to mount the panel on the top, while others store it on the side. Side of the pole mounts can support less weight, and therefore can only accommodate smaller panels.

Roof

There are also solar panel mounts that install on your rooftop. This negates the problem of shadows decreasing performance. Also, thieves are less likely to steal your panels since they aren't located on the ground.

However, the wiring will need to pass inspection for the building code since it's attached to your house. Another problem is that you'll have a more difficult time adjusting the panel as the seasons change.

Tracking

There are also solar panel mounts that track the sun automatically throughout the day. These mounts offer panels that are much more efficient and produce more power. However, this ability isn't useful if the sky is cloudy since it won't be able to track the sun.

RV

There are also solar panel mounts designed especially for RVs. Attached to the roof, they offer a convenient way to provide power to the batteries powering the electrical system. You can also tilt these mounts as necessary.

These are some of the different types of solar panel mounts. Pole mounts are easier to set up, but must be located away from shadowy places. Rooftop mounts avoid the shadow problem, but are more difficult to install on top of a building.
