Four Types of Workers You Should Hire

Stephanie Modkins
If you're short on employees and wondering how to fill a few positions with qualified applicants, consider hiring prior workers. Below are "four types" that can normally fit into a new position without a lot of training and socialization.

Interns
Do you have an intern training to work in a particular position? Check his record and determine if it's time to hire him. This kind of worker is an excellent one to fill an empty slot at your company because an intern is usually young, hungry and willing to learn. As long as he doesn't display flaky behavior, such as showing up late all of the time or not at all, this person can become a key asset to your organization.

Loaners
Another type of worker you should hire is a loaner. This person is someone who came from another department or position within your unit to help out in a particular job. Maybe he was filling in while a pregnant or chronically ill person was on sabbatical. Consider bringing this person back into your fold when a position becomes available. Many times, people want a change at work, but don't know how to crossover. You can be that bridge and in the process obtain a wonderful, new employee.

Ex-temps
Is there an ex-temp you had working for you at one time that made a good impression? Call him back and hire him as regular employee. You already have trained him to do the job, so all this person has to do is be available for work. Normally, for most temps, the idea of getting full benefits and a stable position is a dream comes true. You can make this happen by contacting the temporary company that the ex-temp works for and making a bid for him.

Re-implants
Unlike a decade ago, people these days tend to move around and travel out of their city of origin. Therefore, if you hear that an ex-employee decided to come back home, give him a call. This type of worker is a wonderful rehire because he finally made a decision to stay put and go back to his roots. Plus, he's already knowledgeable about company policy and can abide by the rules. You won't have to tell him about all of the idiosyncrasies of working in your department either since he already knows what they are.

These are the four types of workers you should hire to fill a new position. Any of them will do and can save you the time and energy of gambling on stranger with a fancy, fluffed up resume.
