Four Ways to Be a Chic Mom

Many women feel as if they lose their "cool factor" when they become a mother. While most women agree motherhood is an amazing experience, there's no reason to enter into it with the intentions of losing your chic style. Learn how to juggle tots while maintaining your chic attitude with these four tips.

1. Don't Buy A Minivan: Many people rush out to trade their car in for a minivan when they learn they're expecting. It's true, children need loads of "stuff", most of which you'll be carrying around in your vehicle from place to place. However, minivans aren't your only choice when trying to find a larger vehicle. A medium sized SUV will do the job and allow you to avoid being the "Minivan Mom" you always dreaded becoming.

2. Forget The Mom Jeans: Just because you're a mother doesn't mean you're required to dress in "Mom Jeans" and cardigans. You are still allowed to have your own sense of fashionable style. However, you may want to change your favorite shirt color from white to something a bit more stain-resistant. Don't neglect yourself when it comes to shopping, even if you're tempted to spend your entire wardrobe budget on your child. Buy classic pieces you can move in, to allow you to be active with your children. However, keep in mind sneakers and tennis shoes aren't the only comfortable shoe on the market.

3. Get Involved: Today's chic moms are not only SUV-driving, stylish clothes-wearing people. They are also more involved in the community. While the children of the 80s and 90s often found their parents putting more time in at the office than at home, the opposite is true today. Mothers are more involved in their child's school and sporting activities. So, join something and make a difference!

4. Stylish Gear: While your OB/GYN will likely hand over a free diaper bag to you during your first appointment don't feel obligated to use it. Today chic mothers have more options than ever before in chic mommy gear. Top designers like Vera Bradley are even getting in on the action, designing chic diaper bags and changing sets.

Remember, motherhood doesn't take away your chic attitude. Instead, it adds a sense of maturity to it! Don't forget to continue to embrace yourself as a person after becoming a mother, in the same you did before you had kids of your own.
