Four Ways to Have a More Positive Day

DeeDee
The news is constantly giving us grim reports on murders, robberies, and all kinds of other negative messages. When we talk to our relatives they spend time complaining about the bad things that have happened to them. It seems more and more we are lost in a sea of unpleasant things. But it doesn't have to be that way. With a little change in our mental attitude we can have a more positive day. This is an ongoing battle for me, but here are a few things I try on a daily basis that have worked for me. See if they work for you too.

Stop talking negatively to yourself - if that internal dialog in your mind keeps telling you that you can't, you won't. Turn the little voice in your head into a positive voice and start reminding yourself that others do whatever you are trying to accomplish and you can too. Hey, someone has to do it, why not you?

Look for the blessings in your day - whether we realize it or not, God blesses us each and everyday. We may not see it that way or even realize these blessings exist, but they do. I've even started a blog about it called Blessings from Above to force myself to focus on these blessings and to get others to realize they exist. Slow down and take note of what blessings are in your life. Stop by my blog to see blessings I've realized in my life. Maybe you'll find them too. The address is under the links section of this page.

Surround yourself with positive things - I love going to church - it helps me feel closer to God which is always a positive thing. Consider doing the same. During the week when there is no church service I tune in to K-Love, a Christian radio station, read Christian magazines, books and the Bible, and talk with others who have a positive outlook. All of the above consistently remind me of the positive things in my life.

Add things you love to do to your day - Working on crafts such as crocheting or scrap booking are new found hobbies that I've become attached to because of my friends at work. They've taught me many techniques for both of these hobbies. I've enjoyed learning from them and it gives us a chance to spend time together. And we're not together, these are two things that I can do on my own while watching tv. I feel great joy from creating beautiful things, particularly if I am giving them to someone I care about. You can do the same everyday, no matter what your hobby is. This way, you'll have something to look forward to everyday.

Give the things above a try just for one day and see if it makes a difference. I bet you'll see yourself during it more and more often.
