Record your material
Your song might be the next big thing out there. But if you can't get your band into a studio and actually record something onto a CD, then you may as well kiss your chances at fame goodbye. Having a recording is essential. It can serve as a demo that you can submit to various media who (if they like what they hear) can help expose your music to people who may want to invest in it. So the next time you write a song, consider the idea of taking it to a studio.
Get in touch with your local DJ
It doesn't matter what is being said about radio. It's not a dead media just yet. Yu have to admit that at some point during the day, you turn on to your favorite frequency just to find out what's going on especially in the middle of traffic. Now, imagine your song being played on radio. It's not impossible and its worth getting in touch with the local radio jock and asking him if you can have your stuff played over the air. This is, of course, considering that you have a quality recording and are serious in the music career.
Start a Street Team
What's a street team? Well, basically it's a team that works the streets, telling other people about the great music that you play and when your next concert is. A street team can help to create and distribute news about your upcoming gigs and where they can find your album (if it's not in record stores already). Of course, you can't just recruit anybody. Recruit those who believe and enjoy your music as well. Then set them off to tell people of the good news that you are the coolest band on the planet!
Get Online
I'm sure you've all heard of MySpace. Who hasn't? You say you can't get heard over community websites? Think again. One of the bands that made it to the top of the charts is the now famous Arctic Monkeys of the UK. Bands today get to know their fans much better over the Internet. One way of sharing music and ideas with your fans is by making a music blog or joining a community like MySpace. Got a video? Upload it to YouTube and show the world what you look like and how you perform.
These are four of the most effective ways that you can get your band at a good head start. Only passion for your music will determine whether or not your band is cut out for the industry. Life in a band is much like working in the office. You try your hard to be the best. And if nobody buys it, you keep going at it.

I'm a rapper but prefer to be called a poet. I've been making music since knee high hoping to one day inspire a generation. Music is my love as well as my life giving me the strength to continue making music. I made a promise that good music will never die and i keep my promises.
Im a 17 year old rapper and I have been rapping since I was 11 and everytime I write a verse, or record I fall more in love with what I do...Still I feel like nobody hears me.I don't have a producer so I am teaching myself to make beats, but until I am comfortable with that I freestyle on beats ranging from B.I.G.'s "WHO SHOT YA" to B.O.B's "AIRPLANES" I have those and more on my youtube page: http://www.youtube.com/user/YOUNGFROSTMUSIC
