Four Ways to Prevent Article Writing from Burning You Out

Avoid Writer's Burnout with These Tips

It's hard not to admire, and try to emulate, really productive Internet writers who manage to turn out dozens of articles each and every week. However, there are dangers to being too prolific.

What Is Writer's Burnout?

Writer's burnout often strikes after periods of intense productivity. If you've been writing article after article without taking any real breaks, you might feel pretty good about all the work you've been getting done. But you might also be on the fast track to writer's burnout.

When you're suffering from writer's burnout, it can feel like you've been drained of all the energy and creativity you need to write anything. Writing a complete paragraph can start to feel like an impossible task. After a while, writing anything gets so hard, you dread trying to do it. So, you don't. And weeks, or even months, can pass without you being able to complete a single article.

If you make money writing Internet articles, writer's burnout is something you just can't afford. Luckily, there are things you can do to keep this debilitating form of writer's block at bay.

Don't Focus All of Your Energy on Writing Articles

Have you given up on some of the fun or creative activities you really enjoy in order to focus on writing articles? If so, you could be making a mistake. Focusing all of your creative energies on article writing could put you on the path to writer's burnout.

Make some time every day to read, write poetry, dance, watch movies, paint, visit friends, or do any of the other creative and fun things you might have given up to focus on writing more articles. These activities will help keep you energized.

Take a Weekly Break from Writing Articles

Every week, take a one day vacation away from article writing.

The thought of not writing articles for an entire day might seem like throwing away valuable time. But when you consider that writer's burnout could mean weeks, or even months, of not being able to write anything at all, you'll realize taking a twenty-four hour vacation away from writing is worthwhile.

Change It Up

Sometimes, writer's burnout is caused by boredom, writing the same kind of thing over and over again. So, add some variety to your writing life. Write different kinds of articles. Write on many different subjects. Use a different tone or style for each of your articles. Do whatever you have to do to keep writing interesting and enjoyable.

Stop Writing

If you feel like you're already on the verge of suffering from writer's burnout, take drastic action.

Stop writing for at least a week. Just stop. Give yourself time to take a breath, and give your creativity a chance to reenergize. When you start writing again, start slow, maybe only writing one or two articles a day. Then, as you start to increase your daily output, keep the above tips in mind.

Writer's burnout can put a serious damper on your productivity. But if you learn to pace yourself, you can keep writer's burnout from robbing you of your creativity, and cutting into your profits.
