No matter what causes your blisters, or where the blisters happen to be, they hurt. Blisters on your feet can make the walking we all must do every day a painful exercise. And most of use can't take time away from work or school to stay off of our feet until blisters heal.
Fortunately, there are some simple things you can do to help prevent blisters from forming on your feet.
Prevent Blisters by Wearing Shoes That Fit Properly
Shoes that are loose and ill-fitting will rub against the back of your heel as you walk. This friction will cause blisters, which will make wearing shoes painful.
Before buying a new pair of shoes, walk around in them a little. If they rub against the back of your heel, you probably want to give them a pass.
Wear Socks to Prevent Blisters
One of the most common causes of the blisters you get on your feet is the way your shoes rub against your skin when you walk, run, or dance.
Wearing socks will cut down on a lot of this friction. Choose acrylic socks, which have been proven to be better at preventing blisters than cotton socks. Also, use socks that fit your feet snuggly. Old socks that have been stretched out of shape won't do a very good job of protecting your feet from friction. You should also avoid tube socks.
If you're wearing shoes that just won't look good with socks, try wearing footies. They will protect your feet from the friction that causes blisters, while letting you show your naked ankles all you want.
Protect Your Feet from Blisters with Petroleum Jelly
If you're going on a hike, getting ready to play sports, going for a run, or even going on a long shopping trip, coating areas where you normally get blisters will cut down on friction. Instead of your shoes rubbing and irritating those areas, and causing blisters, the shoes will glide over the skin instead.
Powder Your Feet to Prevent Blisters
Powdering your feet with baby powder before putting on your shoes and socks will also cut down on the friction that causes blisters.
While there's nothing you can do to guarantee you'll never get blisters ever again, these are things you can do to cut down on your chances of getting blisters, and avoid the pain and inconvenience that comes with them.
