Four Ways to Worry Less

Lauren Romano
If you want to be able to worry less, you are not alone. Everyone worries, some more than others, but it is important to try to curb it. The anxiety is not good for your physical or mental well-being. There are ways that you can calm the worry, even during extremely troubling times.

Have a mantra

It can take you time to find one that works for you, but once you do, it can help immensely. Repeat it to yourself during stressful situations or even throughout the day to help keep you centered. If need be, print it out and put it up at work, carry it in your wallet and hang it in your home where you can see it frequently.

Live in the present

I know this sounds incredibly difficult. Many people worry about the future or fret about the past, but the only thing that counts is what you are doing this moment. Your mind can handle many things, but that does not mean you should take on everything at once. Focus on what you are doing at the present moment and put everything else aside for now until you can deal with it piece by piece.

Realize there are some things you cannot change

There are some things in life that we just cannot change as much as we wish that we could. If something awful happens, tell yourself, "It happened, I cannot change it". Unfortunately, if it rains on your wedding day, there is nothing you can do. Worrying about it is fruitless because you cannot suddenly turn the weather in your favor. You should not have to worry about something that you cannot change; all you can do is concentrate on how to deal with the situation at hand and try to make it better.

Change the things you can and prevent them from happening again

While you cannot change that certain things happened, there are ways that you can fix the situations and prevent them from happening again. For example, if you take a train to work at the same time every day and find yourself worrying about being late constantly, take an earlier train. If you are stuck in a certain situation, think about how you can improve it instead of focusing and worrying about it happened in the first place.

While you may wish that you could stop worrying all together, it probably will not happen. You can curb it a substantial amount, but it will not happen overnight. You have to train yourself, and it can take some time, but in the end, it may be worth it if you find yourself worrying much less.
