Four Websites for Children to Have Fun Exploring
Introduce Children to the Wonderful World of Writing
However, paper and pen are no longer that popular. Children nowadays are fast learner, and can manipulate many electronic devices in less time than we do. If your children want to write, here are five websites for them to explore.
Giggle Poetry
This is a fun site to visit, and it is all about poetry. There are many areas on this website where your child can learn to write, read, rate or act out a poem. The site has a list of interview from different poets, or you can post a question for your favorite poet to answer.
In Poetry Class section, you can find prompt on many areas to begin such as how to write a dream poem, sound poem, respect poem, to "I can't write a poem".
You have to sign up for an account on this site before your child can create, read, and share digital books. Your child can create and edit his/her own book.
My favorite part on this site is the "Tips for Authors and Illustrators" section. It includes a series questions to think about, deciding on the genre, considering your audiences, and many more areas. It is not only for children, but beneficial to adults as well.
Your child can create an online poem, and this website helps define various kinds of poems. He/she can also learn from other writers such as Virginia Hamilton, Jan Yolen and Rodman Philbrick.
There are many different projects to explore such as mystery writing, biography writing, poetry writing, writing a book review, and many more to explore.
If your child likes to make slideshow, and tell the story by using photos, then this free software can be downloaded from Microsoft by clicking on the link above. He/she will have fun choosing music, background, write a caption, and has his/her own slideshow.
With this software, your child can also resize, crop, rotate, and change the color of the photos.
These fun websites encourage children to explore the wonderful world of writing, and composing poems. I also find these sites helpful for my writing needs. Sometimes, it is best to look at the world in the eyes of a child.
