Four New Year's Resolutions for the Next Season of "Ice Road Truckers," Including a Suggestion for Lisa Kelly

Roy A. Barnes
The following four New Year's Resolutions for the next season of "Ice Road Truckers" need to be made in order to improve the program, including a suggestion for Lisa Kelly. Four seasons of the History Channel program have been aired, and fans eagerly await the next big set of episodes. Yet there are some annoying aspects of the show that need to be addressed as well as a better way to determine the "King/Queen of the Dalton."

Four New Year's Resolutions for the next season of "Ice Road Truckers" no. one: Lisa Kelly needs to keep her negative self-talk to herself

Lisa Kelly is arguably the fan favorite of the drivers, and has been an inspiration to women for taking on the chauvinistic attitudes of many male drivers. But her past tendency to be a whiner when the going gets tough, spouting off negative self talk about getting fired, not feeling 100 per cent, etc. doesn't help her. While the male drivers do their fair share of bitching, Kelly's forays into that are more fodder for the male drivers who don't think she belongs there. Lisa needs to keep her negative thoughts more to herself, though her stint on "IRT: Deadliest Roads" has toughened her up.

Four New Year's Resolutions for the next season of "Ice Road Truckers" no two: More comprehensive way to determine the "King/Queen of the Dalton"

Through four seasons, the "King of the Dalton" has been crowned by having the most completed runs. But is this really an accurate way to do so? Why aren't the difficulties of the runs, the miles covered, the money made, and the weight and types of the loads figured into the equation? There needs to be a point system that figures out the above factors, with deductions for violations and driver mishaps, whether the drivers are on the Dalton or some other geographical location.

Four New Year's Resolutions for the next season of "Ice Road Truckers" no. three: Eliminate the deceptive teasers

Why do the producers of this program think they have to churn out deceptive teasers in advance of the show or before commercial breaks which give the impression that something really bad is about to happen to one of the drivers (like a crash, for instance), then it doesn't? The worst thing that's happened on this show was when Alex Debogorski had to quit during Season 2 because of life-threatening medical problems, but that had nothing to do with the ice roads. It's time for the deceptive nonsense with the teasers to cease. Fans of "Ice Road Truckers" watch the show because its premise is compelling enough without the deceit.

Four New Year's Resolutions for the next season of "Ice Road Truckers" no four: Post-episode specials

During Season 6 of "Deadliest Catch" on Discovery Channel, there were several airings after episodes called "After the Catch", which saw the captains have a pow wow with the show's narrator Mike Rowe, discussing various subject matters about that program. Well, future seasons of "Ice Road Truckers" need to have some post-episode shows where the drivers get together, too, to discuss some of the behind the scenes aspects of the History Channel show. Furthermore, make it to where fans could email, Twitter, or call the stars in live airings.
