It's the Fourth of July already? Wow, where does the time go? The days are long, the temperatures are hot enough to boil an egg on the asphalt, and the smell of barbecue engulfs the air. That's right, it's Independence Day. It is the time of year when we gorge ourselves with delectable food and sit back in the mild evening air to watch a beautiful fireworks display. Sure, just about every city and town has a Fourth of July celebration, but no other celebration is like the one that takes place in Boulder City, Nevada.

Boulder City, Nevada is known as Clean Green Boulder City. It is located in a premier destination. It is only 20 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip and 5 minutes from Hoover Dam and the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. It has many exciting events during the year, one of which is the July 4 Damboree Celebration. I have lived in Boulder City for almost six years and have enjoyed every single Damboree event.

So what makes the Boulder City Damboree celebration a worthwhile stop? Well, everyone is friendly and fun to hang out with. Essentially, everyone knows each other. Second, there are numerous activities for the kids to partake in. There are numerous food and drink booths (the food is very good). Chomp on some barbecued ribs, grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, and fresh corn on the cob. There are also numerous contests and games for adults and children to participate in. At 9:00pm at night the celebration is topped off with a magnificent fireworks celebration. I must say that out of all of the displays I've seen, Boulder City has one of the best ever.

The day's events start out at 7:00am with a Pancake Breakfast put on by the Boulder City Rotary. Later events include a parade, a flag raising, and even a fly over by the Boulder City Veterans Flying Group. Activities for the kids include a water park and entertainment provided by a DJ. Of course, the evening would not be complete without the magnificent fireworks display at Veterans Memorial Park at 9:00pm. I must say that the fireworks celebration gets better every year. If you are in the Las Vegas Valley area or you had plans on coming to Las Vegas for the weekend, stop by Boulder City to experience the atmosphere of a small town celebration where everyone knows each other.

Hi Drew, I enjoyed your article covering the events of the Dameboree. I, myself, live in Henderson. I was trying to make plans with some friends to get out and have fun at one of the local events. I still haven't picked where to go yet. I may travel out to Boulder City for these events, with my young son. Thank you for sharing this information, I rarely see enough locals writing on AC!- Jenia SIlver
