The Fourth of July is my favorite holiday of the year. When I celebrate, I do it in style. This article will provide some ideas on how to decorate and spend the Summer holiday at your home.
Outside Decorations
Small American Flags can be placed along your walkway or driveway. You can also place them in flower planters. I have even seen them on rural mailboxes. You can put these little flags in almost anyplace. You can buy them on line and even at your local dollar store. The plastic flags are very cheap and water resistant. This years marks the anniversary of the Civil War 150 years ago. You could order a Union Civil War Flag.
Pleated fan flags can also be hung from stair cases, fences and deck rails. The flag pull downs only have five stripes on them. However, they go great next to outdoor doors, windows and porch columns.
Red, white and blue streamers. Take these three rolls and staple them together on one end. You can then twist these as you go around posts, banisters and staircases. I have even seen them on clothes line poles. A little scotch-tape will hold them in place.
Balloons. Red, white and blue balloons can be used on fence posts. You can also put them as table center pieces. Fill them with gas and tie them to small bricks. You can use clear plastic wrap and place colored rocks inside as an anchor for your balloons.
Speaking of bricks, if you have extra bricks lying around, paint them patriotic colors and place them on the edges of your walkway. You can even stand them on end alternating the colors.
Flowers. You can set flowers on your porch steps. Once again consider using patriotic colors. You can even use these flowers as table centerpieces.
Vegetable cans. Remove the paper wrappings from the can and paint them red, white and blue. You can put flowers in them for your centerpieces. They also make good candy and snack holders. You can even put floating candles inside them. Citronella candles could help keep insects away.
Indoor Decorations and Food
Here are a few ideas for your indoor decorations. Place mats for your table can add to the holiday celebration. Chair covers (sleeves) that have July fourth designs would look great in your dining area. Table napkins and table clothes could have a patriotic look. Stickers from SmileMakers.com can be used in places around the house to add to your decorations. Rolled scrolls of the Declaration of Independence could be placed at table settings.
Mixed fruit of strawberries, blueberries with bananas can look attractive. Cookies that look like stars with patriotic colors can add to your celebration look. You could make a sheet cake that look like an American flag. Drink stirrers and picks for your snacks can add to your party.
Music
Finally, no Fourth of July party would be complete without music. Visit your local music store and purchase a patriotic CD.
