There are numerous 4th of July events scheduled in south central Pennsylvania. You will not need to travel far to find fireworks, music, or activities. A lot of the fun is free.

Everyone knows that Hershey is home to Hershey Park. This year Hershey Park has expanded The Boardwalk, the water park within its amusement park, by adding a huge wave pool and a 1,300 foot Intercoastal Waterway for those who want to sun bathe while drifting along.

Ride some roller coasters then cool down at The Boardwalk. Fireworks commence at 10:15 PM. The rain date for fireworks is July 5th.

Lititz

Talk about old, at Lititz Springs Park you can join in on the 192nd annual 4th of July celebration. This is an event that reaches out to families with children. Activities for children include Panning for Gold and the Baby Parade. Adults can enjoy music from The Lititz Rock Band and The Green Onions Acoustic Trio and hear tributes to Simon and Garfunkel or Elton John.

Admission for adults is $8 in advance or $10 at the gate, $4 for children 2-10 in advance /at the gate, and children under two are free. Gates open at 11 AM. Fireworks with synchronized sound start at 10 PM. Rain date is July 6th.

Gettysburg

Are you a Civil War fanatic? Check out Living History Weekend at Gettysburg National Military Park. See the Confederate Military Forces programs at Auto Tour stop No. 6 or the Mifflin Guard at the Pennsylvania monument. It's all free.

York

Free York Symphony concert and fireworks occur annually at the York Expo Center within the York Fairgrounds. Be there early to get your spot. Gates open at 6 PM. The concert starts at 7:30 PM and the fireworks blast off at 9:20 PM.

The 2009 American Musicfest is being held at Harrisburg's Riverfront Park and City Island on July 3rd, 4th, and 5th from 12 PM to 10 PM each day. Six stages will feature many kinds of music from classical to hip hop to country. The Musicfest is free.

On the 4th you can see fireworks on the island at the conclusion of the Harrisburg Senators baseball , an event occurring simultaneously on the island.

Baseball

See fireworks and enjoy baseball. On the 4th of July the York Revolution travels to Lancaster for a War of the Roses game against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Game time is 6:30 PM.

The Harrisburg Senators are at home against Akron with a 7 PM start.

Not in the mood to go anywhere? At least head to the highest hill in your neighborhood with binoculars and a chair. You might be able to catch three or four fireworks shows at the same time.
