Fireworks are very popular on Independence Day. In addition, alcohol consumption and water recreation are also among the top activities. These are not a good mix to have together.
Fireworks can be very dangerous. After every Fourth of July, there will be news stories of fires started due to fireworks or children and adults burned or with eye injuries. In many cases, pets are also involved in the danger. Dogs may chase or run after a low flying firework.
Fireworks are often very expensive and very loud. They can very easily frightened young children. Some fireworks can even be damaging to sensitive ears and eyes. Many children prefer to watch from a far distance.
If you are not into having your children participate in fireworks this year or if your children are not interested in the noise that they cause, try having them make their own! They are quieter, safer, and much less expensive!
If you and your child do plan on celebrating with real fireworks, you can always begin the show with this activity!
Your small child will be amazed at the magic you perform when you create these fireworks in a glass.
All that you will need is listed below.
A tall glass of water, use a clear glass
Vegetable oil
Red and blue food coloring
A small glass
Simply fill a large tall glass with water.
Add three tablespoons of vegetable oil and one to two drops of each the read and the blue food coloring into the small glass. Do not add water to this glass.
Carefully stir this combination a couple of times with a fork. You want to mix until you just barely break the drops. Be careful not to over mix! You want to have both small and large beads of coloring.
Very slowly pour the oil and food coloring mixture into the water. Watch and in about 30 seconds the beads will begin to explode through the oil and release little red and blue streamers into the water.
The streamers will appear as little fireworks.
Try the same activity using various colors and combinations of food coloring! Enjoy and have fun!
