I've lived around Jefferson City, Missouri for most of my life and the one thing that is always amazing is the Fourth of July fireworks display that the city sponsors.
Ever since I was a little kid it's been a yearly event for my family and friends to attend the Independence Day Celebration downtown. When I was little my grandmother and great-aunt would set up a vendor booth and sell hand woven wicker baskets and other crafts to the people attending the celebration, I would help them sell crafts for a few hours then go out and enjoy the July 4th Festival and fireworks show that takes up the entire downtown area around the Capitol Building.
This year the city continues this tradition with an amazing two day Independence Day celebration that ends with the Fourth of July Fireworks display we've all come to know and love. The 4th of July fireworks starts usually at dusk, about 9:30 or 9:45 PM depending on how dark it gets. The show last roughly forty five minutes to an hour display of brightly colored fireworks set off a barge that slowly makes it way past the Missouri River Bridge and follows the river past the Capitol Building and part of downtown so most of the city and surrounding areas can view the display. Every year a local radio station sponsors the event known as the Sky Concert, the radio station plays Independence Day themed music and songs that are almost perfectly synced to the colorful July 4th fireworks explosions.
This bright display can be seen for miles around the city, and has always been a delight for young and old alike. This year is no different with the Independence Day Celebration starting on Thursday July 3rd, and ending Friday July 4th with the usual dynamic fireworks display at dusk.
The best spots are usually around the Capitol Building or from atop one of the many downtown parking garages and buildings, but you can get a clear view across the river by the airport and from along the highway as well.
This years Fourth of July fireworks and Independence Day celebration poses to be the biggest and best Jefferson City has seen in a long time. My family already has a prime spot reserved downtown at a private party atop one of the parking garages off of High Street hosted by one of the events sponsors JCMG. So this year should be a fantastic Forth of July for everyone who attends the Independence Day Celebration.
