Fourth of July Fireworks in Prince Georges County Maryland

Jerrard Ellerbe
In Prince Georges County Maryland, there are several locations that will celebrate our independence with great fireworks.

In Takoma Park, the Fourth of July is an all day event for the community. Starting at 10am, the Takoma Park Fourth of July Parade starts at Carroll and Ethan Allen Ave. and will end at Sherman Avenue. Food Vendors will also be available in Memorial Park and various areas along the parade route.

Beginning at 7:30pm, the address from the Takoma Park mayor and a patriotic concert will be held at the Takoma Park Middle School. The fireworks will begin approximately at 9:30pm.

The University of Maryland College Park is great choice for viewing the fireworks on July 4th. The event is located in Parking Lot 1, close to Byrd Stadium. Food and Live music usually begins around 7pm and the Fireworks start at 9pm. The parking lot can get pretty crowded close to 7pm, so it would be a good idea to get there as soon as possible to find a good parking spot.

In Mitchellville, Six Flags America also hosts the Fourth of July Fireworks. Although I live only a few minutes away from the theme park, I really wouldn't go to Six Flags to view fireworks. I would rather avoid the young and hyper crowd as well as the expensive cover charge just to get into the park. However, if you already planned on an all-day event at the park on July 4th, the fireworks will be a great event to cap off the day.

In Bowie, there are two locations where you can view the same fireworks show on the Fourth of July. Allen Pond Park, a large and beautiful park, will have an July 4th event that will begin at 3pm with food and entertainment for the entire family. The Prince Georges Stadium will also host an all day event (beginning at 4pm) that will end with the best firework display in the county.

The Buddy Attick Park in Greenbelt has the same type of atmosphere as Allen Pond Park in Bowie. Entertainment with food will begin at 4pm with the fireworks starting at dusk. I tried going to this location once, but the park is so small with inadequate parking. We were forced to view the show from Kenilworth Ave., where the bridge was closed off for viewing as well.

The Granville Gude Park in Laurel will host an all-day event as well. Their community parade will begin at 11am with food and entertainment following afterward. The fireworks will begin at dusk.
