Here are a few great ideas to get you started:
Think Red
Red fruit juice, Red fruit Punch, or Red Kool-Aid. Any red drink in a clear glass or clear plastic cup instantly shouts July 4th.
Think Blue
Blue Kool-Aid or any other blue juice is a lot of fun! Blue may be a bit harder to find than red, but it can still be a lot of fun!
Think White
Milk is not only a healthy beverage for children, but also one that can be a lot of fun for July 4th. Add strawberry flavoring or red or blue food coloring to a glass of milk.
If you prefer to serve your milk "on the rocks" put red or blue food coloring into milk ahead of time and fill an ice cube tray with the colored milk. When you serve milk in a glass, add a few colored frozen milk cubes. As the frozen milk cubes melt, the glass of milk becomes swirled with the different colors.
Think Clear
A few drops of food coloring can make even plain water seem exciting!
To double the effect, fill an ice cube tray with colored blue water or colored red water.
Think Opposite of Hot
Frozen Fruit Smoothies or Virgin Strawberry Daiquiris are a great red idea. Top them with whipped cream (white) and a few blueberries (blue). You'll quickly have a Red, White, and Blue treat that's sure to make them feel very independent!
Think Special Treat
As a child, my favorite "special" drink was a Shirley Temple. I rarely was allowed to drink soda so it was indeed a special treat to have 7-Up, with a hint of grenadine syrup, and a maraschino cherry on a little sword toothpick. For the July 4th instead of swords use some cute little holiday toothpicks. Little girls, in particuar, will love this special growny treat!
