More Than 50 Songs for 4th of July

This was such a fun thing to research and write! The play list below should keep your toes tapping and your guests interested for a few hours. You can of course pick and choose, but remember to include something for everyone. This play list should please everyone at your party happy.,

On the list is of course the widely regarded Jimi Hendrix guitar solo of the Star Spangled Banner from his performance at Woodstock in August 1968. Also on the list is the song that led the Dixie Chicks into difficult waters with some people. The song, Traveling Soldier is a beautiful song and meaningful song. The Neil Diamond song They're Coming to America was a top ten hit in 1980. After the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Neil Diamond changed the lyrics at the end of the son from They're coming to America" to "Stand Up for America".

Creedence Clearwater Revival's 1969 hit Fortunate Son is on the list. John Fogerty has been quoted as saying that the song was inspired by David Eisenhower, the grandson of President Dwight David Eisenhower who married Julie Nixon, the daughter of President Richard Nixon in 1968 . Eisenhower was enlisted in the Navy Reserve. The song is about someone drafted to serve in Vietnam. If you don't want anything on your play list that might sound anti war, you can leave it off. However, this song was performed by CCR for President Clinton in 2000.

David Bowie's Young American is on the list. Released in 1975, the B-side of this record was the arguably more popular Suffragette City

There are plenty of extreme patriotic songs on the list that won't offend anyone and are upbeat and uplifting. Enjoy the day and the music.
