As of right now, it appears that the days of the sitcom are numbered and hour long dramatic series are upon us, so here it is. On my previous CBS entry, I ignored Saturday and Sunday, and I apologize for that. After I get through all the fall previews, I will do a fall weekend preview as well.
FOX
SUNDAY
8PM- 10pm: Between 8 and 10pm on Sundays, Fox has graced us with 4 semi-adult cartoons. The Simpson's has been on for 18 years now and has been eclipsed by South Park as the funniest show about characters who never age, King of the Hill and American Dad are the preferred shows for the Southern Redneck crowd who loves to feel patriotic, and Family Guy is a show once dead, brought back to life that has become stale in recent years. However, come Spring we are brought a new show from 9pm-10pm.
The Sarah Connor Chronicles: Have you ever seen Terminator? Not the shitty new one, but the ones that made history with the special effects and massive robot wars. This takes place after the second movie and ignores the existence of the third (even though a fourth movie is in development. Anyways, Lena Headley (best known as the Queen in 300) plays Sarah Connor, while Zach from Heroes plays her son. Meanwhile, Summer Glau (Tess, the freak who controls people on the 4400) is the terminator assigned to protect her and the rest of the cast doesn't matter. Frankly, everybody is going to watch this show for the first few episodes. Frankly, I can not wait for the Spring so I can watch 24 and this show. I believe this show will last about 8 episodes before being cancelled like so many fox shows are. Serves them right for offering this show up against Cold Case and Desperate Housewives, two shows already popular in their own right.
MONDAY: Monday on FOX is going to be interesting. K-Ville will air after Prison Break until 24 comes on in the spring and it takes a break. During this break, K-Ville will air before 24.
Prison Break: All of my favorite characters have been killed, and all I know is that they've casted some young Hispanic kid as a guy who follows around the main character. If they don't fix this show by the fourth episode, I am done and will stick to watching Heroes for the rest of my adult life.
24: This is the show that started real time formats. It was an amazing idea with an amazing lead and a decent supporting cast. As the show continued, main characters were killed off and new ones were introduced. 7 seasons later, I believe this show has jumped the shark and has started casting people long believed to have been dead as well as outspoken critics of the show (Janeane Garofolo) to play FBI agents. I don't think this show should be on anymore, but it is, so they better not spend the entire season making Jack Bauer whiny and non violent.
K-Ville: This show has an alright cast. Anthony Anderson in a serious role is something I wouldn't have said was possible a few months ago, but his recent performances have proven me wrong. It should do extremely well as a follow-up to Prison Break/Predecessor to 24. For some reason, Fox has released the pilot on its website possibly because it fears that they haven't pushed it enough, or maybe so that people can get excited prematurely.
Tuesday: Given that American Idol is in permanent status as the countries favorite show, Tuesdays are likely to go to Fox in the ratings.
Bones: In the fall, Bones will premier its season at 8pm on Tuesdays before American Idol takes over the time slot in the winter. Bones is another CSI type forensic buddy cop show. Nothing special to see here.
American Idol: Everyone loves this show, except for me. I don't care about a bunch of talentless wannabe stars trying to make it big.
House: House is going the CSI route this year, in adding more major characters, but at least this time, I am going to enjoy watching House treat his new lesbian and Indian fellows like crap. More stereotypical jokes, Lupus humor, and great chemistry makes this formulaic hospital show one of the best shows on television.
Wednesday:
8pm: Back To You: Think Anchorman and Frasier combined. In what looks to be an incredibly funny show, Kelsey Grammar and Patricia team up as news anchors who hate each other. This and its follower are the only comedies on, on Wednesday so I highly doubt they will work. Back to You will go the entire season, get moved to Fridays next season and get cancelled halfway through
830: Til Death: The brother and best character from Everybody Loves Raymond stars as a somewhat happily married man to a relatively unknown actress. Their lives get turned upside down when newlyweds move next door, one of whom is Finch from American Pie. A few episodes of the season least year were funny, but it didn't seem to be anything special.
830: Winter Replacement show for Til Death: The Return of Jezebel James.....I honestly don't see why anyone would watch a show about a surrogate mother/sister meant to be a comedy.
9: Kitchen Nightmares: Reality show where some guy I've never heard of helps failing restaurants turn themselves around.
9 Winter/Spring: American Idol results show. Woopie, another day of talentless actors.
Thursday
8pm: Are you smarter than a fifth grader? I like this show, but only because I get to watch a bunch of retarded adults answer relatively simple questions incorrectly and lose to 12 year old kids. It'll be like an awesome train-wreck.
9pm: Don't forget the lyrics: A reality show about memorizing song lyrics? Who cares!? I think fox stopped caring about its programming not on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights.
9pm Midseason replacement: Canterbury's law: Have you seen Shark? Replace the main character with Julianna Marguelis. Same show.
Friday
8pm: Are you the next great American Band? Obviously, this is a reality show about groups of untalented people trying to attain fame. Think American Idol for multiple people.
8pm Midseason: This is where Bones is being shown after American Idol takes over its time slot. Friday nights is where television shows go to die.
9pm: Nashville: Not much is known about this other than it is supposed to be a Soap Opera set in the South. It might even be a reality soap opera, but the description is so confusing that I have no idea.
9pm Midseason: New Amsterdam: I haven't seen previews, but I've read a lot about this show and I have to say, I will be aggravated if I can't watch it online due to my inavailability on Friday nights. This looks like it could be an awesome show, a mixture of Highlander and a Romantic Comedy. An immortal cop can't become mortal until he finds true love.
