Fox and Glee Won Me Back

Jason Gallagher
Last week I found myself wondering if I gave up on Fox's Glee too early into the season. The show was just a mess, when I left about five episodes in, the music was okay but it was the only reason to watch the show. The characters seemed more like cardboard, and there was not one likeable one on the show in my opinion. We had a teenaged pregnancy, a faked pregnancy, a mean and sarcastic cheerleading coach, and a glee club director with no self-confidence whatsoever. This was not exactly the right element for what I would consider a top-notch drama or comedy, but I suppose the critics and fans disagreed.

While I long ago gave up on the show to keep up with Jason, Grant, Kris, Amy, and Steve on SyFy's Ghost Hunters, my DVR never gave up on Glee. To my surprise, this past Friday I was stuck with no new Smallville and no new Star Wars: The Clones Wars, you know for the kids. I decided to see what Mr. Shuester and the other wannabe superstar singers were up to. After watching just a few minutes, I was relieved to find out that Matthew Morrison as Mr. Shuester was dumping his wife and reaching out to Jayma Mays as Emma Pillsbury (who by the way does make a beautiful bride). Sue Sylvester played by Jane Lynch is still as annoying a character as television can create, but lets face it she is very good here in this role, as much as I hate to admit it. And I love that she got what was coming to her.

As for the rest of the ubertalented music kids, what can I say? I am sorry I left you. When I left the show it really had no direction and really was threatening to drift into the downward spiral of a great pilot with no substance, and yet Fox's Glee has rebounded into a great drama. Now, I have the task of finding out what I missed. As always though, this show is also about music and cross promotion. And they can sing, that much appears to be true. Still would be nice to have Matthew Morrison's rendition of "Leaving on a Jet Plane" from the directors cut released as a single or on one of the two hundred soundtracks the team of Glee must have up their sleeves, I thought it was nice.
