Fox News "Glenn Beck Program" Loses Advertisers Over Obama "Racist" Remarks

With All the Hyperbolic Crap Glenn Beck Slings, You Knew One Day it Would Boomerang

Glenn Beck finally did it. He finally went far enough that his corporate sponsors, his show's advertisers, could not -- and would not -- follow him. Glenn Beck, when he called President Barack Obama a "racist" and bolstered that opinion with the supposition that he might have a "deep-seated hatred for white people," went too far. Reparations agenda, no problem. Texas secessionist movement, still no problem. The president's a racist... sponsors had a problem.

Several advertisers have decided to forego advertising Glenn Beck's program on the Fox News Channel. They have not decided to leave Fox altogether, so Fox News still retains the advertising dollars. They just won't be seen in connection with Glenn Beck's program. Call it a "reallocation" of advertising dollars.

Color of Change, an organization created to make the government more aware of important black issues, immediately went to work circulating a petition to have advertisers remove themselves from "The Glenn Beck Program." Thus far, the Color of Change has gathered over 75,000 signatures, according to The Examiner and its message has been heard from the likes of Proctor and Gamble, Geico, Men's Wearhouse, Sargento's, and Lawyer.com.

Some of the companies are "reallocating" their advertising to sponsor other Fox programs. Others maintain that their ads were never meant to be aired during Glenn Beck's show at all and that they were talking to Fox News to rectify that situation. They are not exactly "reallocating," but more accurately reapplying their ads toward their intended sponsorship.

Perhaps Fox News Channel is considering finding a way to "reallocate" the time given to air "The Glenn Beck Program."

But this has all been done before. Color of Change was simply using time-tested methods. Some star or celebrity or high profile individual (or company) does something that annoys someone and, before one knows it, pressure is being applied for sponsors to remove themselves in connection to the offending entity. It happened with Don Imus after his "Nappy-headed hos" comment. It happened to David Letterman after his inappropriate joke that included one of Sarah Palin's children. Don Imus was eventually removed from his hosting positions on cable and radio, even though he offered a public apology and met with the Princeton Lady Tigers basketball team he had offended. David Letterman weathered some harsh criticism before making a very public 5-minute apology to Sarah Palin and her family for his remarks.

The moral of the story? "It's not easy being Glenn Beck" or "Watch what you say or prepare to see some major reallocation of your world."

    Glenn Beck speaks the truth.

GB should have his plug pulled. He has gone from flat out lies to complete fiction and is being potrayed as news when he is the furthest thing from it!

Glen Beck is a Rush want a be. He wants to be another Rush Limbaugh and make his money shocking people. As far as Hannity goes, well all I can say is the nut doesn't fall far from the tree.

Odd this article mentions 'The Color of Change'
Do you people know that Acorn, The color of change, Van Jones, Etc: Etc: Etc: they are all tied together.
Van Jones is Deep into Color of change.
Sure then, Van Jones want's Glenn Beck to go down. Make sense?

Lori L. sounds as demented as Beck. You've been watching too much Hannity and Limbaugh. Fox News need to ditch all of them.

Watch "The Daily Show", Michael. They ran the clips of his shows back-to-back. Beck should be in politics as much as he says whatever he thinks will gain him popularity.

Controversy and crazy sells, Kim. Beck's a novelty item. He also appeals to nutcase Right. And do not confuse that with the majority of conservatives. I'm talking about the idiot Right that start screaming flat-Earth idiocies every time Obama's name is mentioned. Calling Obama a "racist" and then claiming that what he's doing is part of a grand "reparations" plan showed Beck to be projecting some type of racial image himself. Methinks Beck is a little too worried about race, superficialities, and building white resentment.

Like Kim said, the guy's ratings will rise, at least short-term. I'm guilty too; I just HAD to check him out last week. Dang, the guy's head bobs like a bobblehead! What an act! Just today, I saw that he really got busted on health care: To oppose Obama, he has proclaimed American health care as "the greatest," but pre-Obama he was unhappy with some sort of med procedure on him and was calling it "the worst." A total reversal; pretty funny!

Obama is "raping the elderly"? (See comment below.) Stunningly absurd statement. Stop reading the Republican's talking points.
    Good article, Saul!

How can Obama be a racist when his mother, who he adored, is white???? People are so f*cking stupid. I've been reading you today, Saul, and your articles are very well written. I'm just tired of the idiots who make stupid statements about Obama.
