Fox TV's 24 : Analyzing Season 1 of the Best Show on Television

The Outlaw
I had been told by a friend a couple of weeks ago about the hit show 24 on Fox network on Monday nights. I had seen a couple of isolated episodes from the 2006 series of 24 and I felt that I just had to see 24, right from the very begining starting with Season 1. As you continue reading, I have summarized several episodes and broken down character analysis of thje main character, Jack Baur and other key roles in Season 1.

The role of Jack Bauer is played by Screen Actors Guild Award winner Keifer Sutherland, Donald Sutherland's son and I must say he deserves every bit of his award. He is the reason why the show 24 is so popular on television and the supporting actors also make viewers turn in to see the show every single week. This is one of the few shows on t.v. in which the viewer must see every single episode or they will be lost while watching the next episode.

Jack Bauer is every bit the hero he appears to be. He doesn't believe in following orders or protocol. In Season 1, the only downside I felt as I reflected back on the season was that some storylines repeated. For instance the whole thing with Jack's family being kidnapped.

His wife and daughter both got kidnapped twice and it seemed like they ran out of a new storyline. I understand that most viewers don't expect Jack's family to get kidnapped twice but it was a little repetitive. Also, in a shocking twist, Nina Myers was also a spy for CTU, Counter Intelligence Unit. The fact that Nina was a spy was a real shocker but the character of Jamie was also discovered to be a spy as well.

As a viewer of the show you gota love how every possible character imaginable has a chance of dying in every single episode except for Jack Baur who cannt die or there really wouldn't be any show. In the first few episodes of Season 1 Jack's friend and boss Mr. Walsh is killed and throughout the season so many agents die at the hands of terrorists.

My favorite scene of Season 1 was when Jack Baur went in guns a blazin' into the repair shop and took out Victor and Andre, the Serbian terrorists who had told Jack that his daughter had been killed. They had tried to lure Jack in to kill him but they underestimated Jack as he killed both of them in a fantastic gun fight.

What's really pathetic in the show, and perhaps the show purposely does this, is the role of Jack's wife and daughter. Are they purposely that dumb? I mean, geez, the stupid blond daughter of Jack's falls in love with her kidnapper, a guy named Rick who just doesn't get it through her dumb skull that Rick has been sleeping with another girl? Also, when she gets to a payphone after her car falls off a cliff and her stupid mother has amnesia, she calls Tony Almeda and panics and doesn'y event tell him her location. Instead she goes to Rick's place and ridiculously thinks she can find out information about her kidnapper, a man named Ganes who is dead. Rick doesn't even know the man who Ira Ganes has been working for her and Rick has nothing in his house that can help her. She really gives dumb blonds a bad name. She does seem a little smart and brave when she escapes her kidnappers in the end by pouring coffee on his face and swimming to safety.

The mother is another dumb and stupid woman. She suffers amnesia and can't remember a thing after she thinks her daughter has been killed in the car explosion. She doesn't tell anyone that she has been raped and she tells Jack that her pregnancy is her baby when the baby was caused by her getting raped. She gets in CTU's way and always wants to know the status of her family. Maybe if she wasn't so dumb her family wouldn't always be in trouble. She is by no means braves and at times I was actually rooting for her to be killed already.

Tony Almeda I love. He plays the role of a loyal and impartial person in CTU and is smart, intelligent and brave as he rescues Terry Bauer from the terrrorist by killing him. He is the one person on CTU who is loyal and still alive after Season 1.

Nina Myers. Wow I can't beleive she was a traitor. After all she has been through on Season 1, the writers of Season 24 decided to make her a traitor. But that's what makes 24 so great. Anything can happen.

All I can say is that I can't wait to watch Season 2 of 24. Stay tuned.

    God, what an awful review.

"You have to remember that characters like Kim and Teri are civilians, and they do not know what we know all the time - they're left out of the loop, they're not CTU agents!" Exactly. That's the whole point, they are normal human, they do what your mother and your sister probably would. As for Nina: Her role was not getting rid of Jack, she was an international agent, who "helped" a lot of different people, terrorist for example, but doing it as a CTU agent. She wasn't by all means helping the USA government or Palmer, that's why she was found a traitor.

24 - STARTED OUT GREAT. THEN THE BOMB WENT OFF AND JACK STARTS TO GET PROOF OF THE PHONY RECORDING. STILL GOOD FOR A COUPLE SHOWS. THEN IT JUST GOES ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON. SCREW UP AFTER SCREW UP. AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON. CAN'T THE WRITERS THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE. AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON.

The show made it clear it was Jack's baby...maybe the reviewer missed that part. As for Teri showing bravery, she didn't know "Alan York" was a killer. But I agree, both women were dumb as bricks and Teri probably deserved to die more than Kim. As for Nina not taking advantage of opportunities to kill Jack - well the whole point of keeping him alive was to use him to kill Palmer. If you are going to comment on the show or write a review, at least understand the plot before making a half-ass analysis.

    Absurd!!!
Nina Mayers can't be a traitor, bcose if she wanted Jack dead she had hundreds opportunities to do that.
So it's simply a poor choice, it's not something WOW, it's something stupid, that compromise all the story line.

Janet died in a room without camera, so where they get the video of nina killing Janet?

If Janet is the traitor (she can't be, but she is) what's the reason? money? spying? if there is at least one simple reason we can't understand why she has to allied with Drazen and why she helped Jack so many time if she wants him dead.

Let me say, very good fiction.
But the ends is so poor :(

Hope the 2nd season is better.

And the baby was obviously Jack's, not because Teri was raped, how could you find out you're pregnant after only a couple of hours after being raped?? Think about it! And she would want to know about the status of her family, cuz it's her family!! At least make rational comments w/ your review.

I think neither Teri nor Kim Bauer were dumb in this show. Teri spent hours looking for her daughter since midnight, shows considerable bravery considering the man she was with was not a friend, gives herself up to be raped, and then has to deal with the shock of thinking her daughter was dead. As for Kim, why would she trust CTU when the last time her mother called there, she was kidnapped? And Rick - he helped Kim get out of the situation. You have to remember that characters like Kim and Teri are civilians, and they do not know what we know all the time - they're left out of the loop, they're not CTU agents!
