If you are in any way familiar with "American Idol", then you will now what to expect from this new series. They don't have singers competing here, they have musical groups instead. There is a total of 10 bands that they will feature that were narrowed down from 40. Viewers will be able to vote via text messaging as well as calling. In the final episode, three bands will be left standing.
"The Next Great American Band" will be hosted by Dominic Bowden. In the past he has hosted "New Zealand Idol" and has made television appearances on "What Now?" as well as "The 38th Annual New Zealand Music Awards". "The Next Great American Band" is executive produced by Nigel Lythgoe ("American Idol" and "So You Think You Can Dance" as well as Ken Warwick ("American Idol" and "America's Got Talent").
This reality series will have a total of three judges.
The first being Ian Dickson who has appeared also as a judge on "Australian Idol" and has hosted "Celebrity Survivor" in 2006. Dickson has had a long successful career in the music industry which included being a promotions and press manager for bands such as Oasis as well as Primal Scream. He has also been employed as a marketing executive working with the likes of Celine Dion and Ozzy Osbourne.
Another judge on "The Next Great American Band" is Shelia E. She comes from a family of talented musicians so it would only be a matter of time before Shelia delved into this world as well. She's had hits during the 80's such as, "The Glamorous Life" as well as "The Belle of St. Mark". She has worked with Prince and Gloria Estefan. Presently, Sheila is part of the group C.O.E.D which stands for Chronicles of Every Diva.
Finally, there is Johnny Rzeznik who is the lead singer of the band, The Goo Goo Dolls. The band has had many successful hits including, "Iris, "Slide" as well as "Broadway". Over the years, Rzenik has worked with Limp Bizkit, Ryan Cabrera as well as Anastacia.
