Fran & Cherie's Skillet Cafe & Bakery in Mount Vernon, Iowa, offers made to order, fresh food prepared in an open kitchen. The cafe is located right in the heart of Mount Vernon at 101 E. 1st Street.

Fran & Cherie's Skillet Cafe is a favorite of mine, because breakfast is served all day. They offer a fully loaded breakfast menu. The last time I was at the cafe, I ordered the All Veggie Skillet Omelet for $5.95. It is a three egg omelet filled with fresh vegetables and topped with cheddar cheese. All omelets come with a side of home fries, choice of bacon, ham or sausage, and a slice of bread. The omelets range in price from $5.95 to $6.95.

The Skillet Cafe also has made to order eggs. Combos are from $1.10 to $5.25. You can order from the griddle and have your choice of waffles, pancakes, or french toast.

For $4.95 you can choose from biscuits and gravy or a breakfast burrito. There are also a variety of baked goodies from $1.40 to $3.65.

The lunch menu at Fran & Cherie's Skillet Cafe & Bakery offers up a variety of skillet pastas. A favorite of mine is the Veggie Skillet for $5.95. The pasta is tossed with a selection of fresh vegetables, olive oil, and seasonings.

Lunch also offers up some great sandwiches. For $5.95, the Chicken Bacon Ranch is a grilled chicken breast topped with bacon, ranch dressing, and cheddar cheese on a sourdough bun. The cafe also has a classic Reuben for $6.95, or choose a Philly Steak sandwich for the same price.

There are also dinner sized salads available if you are looking for something light. A cup of soup is $2.95 and a bowl is $3.95. Stuffed potatoes are also available for $5.95.

Beverages include an assortment of coffee, soda fountain pop, milk and orange juice.

Perks

The atmosphere is family friendly. You order at the counter, and Fran or Cherie will bring it to you when it is ready. You are in charge of grabbing your silverware, drinks and condiments.

One of the great perks about Fran & Cherie's Skillet Cafe & Bakery is that although they have a great number of menu choices available, they don't mind if you choose to build your own meal. This is a great option to have if you have a bunch of picky eaters!

When to Go

Fran & Cherie's Skillet Cafe & Bakery is open Monday-Saturday 6 AM-4PM.The grill closes at 2 pm daily with the exception of Thursday. Thursday nights, the Skillet Cafe is open until 8 PM. The cafe is closed on Sunday.
