Frankenstein Halloween Costume Ideas from the Movies

Jennifer Claerr
The story of Frankenstein can offer many Halloween costume ideas, especially if you look at the Frankenstein movies that have been made since 1931. Frankenstein costumes would also make great couples costumes and group costumes. Here are a few ideas for campy and fun costumes based on the characters from the story of Frankenstein.

Dr. Frankenstein Mad Scientist Halloween Costume Ideas

To create a quick and easy Dr. Frankenstein mad scientist Halloween costume, get a white button down shirt, some black pants, black shoes and a long white lab coat. Then find a white fright wig, a pair of black or brown vinyl gloves and a pair of black horn-rimmed glasses or goggle-style sunglasses. Style the fright wig so that the hair sticks out wildly all around your head. Wear a bow tie and carry accessories such as a prop syringe, a test tube or a bottle full of green liquid.

Frankenstein's Monster Halloween Costume Ideas

For a Frankenstein's monster Halloween costume, find a pair of black pants, a black T-shirt, an oversized black jacket with large shoulder pads and black platform shoes. Sew some different color patches onto the jacket and pants. Also get a Frankenstein headpiece with a wig attachment, some liquid latex and some green makeup. Dab a little liquid latex at the end of the Frankenstein headpiece and allow it to dry. Also use the liquid latex to paint some scars on your face and neck. To make your Frankenstein's monster costume complete, apply the green makeup to your face, neck and hands. For added effect, fashion some simple Frankenstein bolts from juice bottles and silver paint.

Bride of Frankenstein Halloween Costume Ideas

To make a bride of Frankenstein Halloween costume, you'll need a long white shapeless and sleeveless gown from white cotton fabric or a white bedsheet. Attach some shoulder pads to the gown. Get a tall black frizzy wig with a white streak on each side. If you can't find a Bride of Frankenstein wig with the white streaks, use some white hair color spray to spray them on. Apply pale makeup to your face and use eyebrow pencil to give your eyebrows an upswept look. Apply heavy liquid eyeliner, mascara and red or black lipstick. Then loosely wrap your arms in white bandages, starting at the top and working your way downward. Also wrap your fingers with the bandages. Have someone else tie off the bandages for you at intervals along your arms.

Frankenstein Igor Halloween Costume Ideas

Igor appeared in more than one Frankenstein movie. However, Igor's most iconic appearance was in Young Frankenstein, in which he was played by Marty Feldman.

To create an Igor Halloween costume, get a hooded black pull-over sweater or jacket, some black tights, black boots and a long black scarf and shawl. Also find some cloth or acrylic batting to stuff in the shoulders and back to make yourself look hunchbacked. Also cut out the sections from an egg carton. Hot glue the egg carton segment to the inside of the knees, elbows and calves of the costume with the bottom part facing the fabric.
