Freaky Baby Facts - Weird Things to Expect from Your New Baby

Babies are a wonder, especially if you are a first time parent. What you quickly learn as a new parent is that babies are not only little miracles but they are also full of surprises. These surprises can be funny or down right freaky.

Eyes That Change Color

It is very common for a baby's eyes to change color. This is particularly true during the first six months of life, but it can happen any time during the child's first four years of life. This means that the color your baby's eyes are at birth will most likely not be the same color they end up with as an adult. The change in color usually is related to hue as opposed to color variations, but sometimes a baby's eyes can change from a bright blue to a green, or from a brown to a hazel.

Born With Teeth

One of the freakiest baby facts that you will ever learn is that babies can be born with teeth. Yikes! These teeth are called by several names including "milk teeth" and "hens teeth." Having teeth when you are born is very rare and can cause a lot of problems. This is why if the teeth don't fall out soon after birth they are removed. This helps to prevent choking hazards and to aid in nursing.

Hair That Falls Out

Many babies are born hairy. They may have a full head of hair, side burns and body hair that is a color and texture that you weren't expecting. For example, couples that are both natural blonds may produce a baby that is born with thick black hair. If this happens there is nothing to worry about as it will fall out in the weeks following their delivery. This is because the baby's hormone levels drop which causes all or most of their hair to fall out of their follicles. After about three months a new batch of hair shafts will emerge usually in a color and texture that is more in line with what the parents were expecting.

If your baby's hair falls out in patches then there may be other causes besides hormones. For example, it may be that your baby is lying on the same spot too much, they may be pulling out their own hair or they may have a fungal infection. There are also several diseases and disorders that cause hair to either not grow at all or to fall out in clumps.
