Fred Claus: A Movie Review

Tyler Bayer
Fred Claus is an entertaining, warm, feel-good Christmas movie. Fred Claus is enjoyable and appropriate for kids as well as entertaining for adults. And what's more magical than Christmas, anyway? The Christmas trees, the snow, the cute Santa's little helper, and the elves. Fred Claus has it all, including Santa Claus' gift manufacturing factory, which has different assembly lines making popular gifts.

What's on your Christmas shopping list this year? As you can imagine, and as the movie depicts, it's not an easy task for Santa Claus to manufacture all the different Christmas gifts for all the kids around the world. This is one of the reasons Santa seeks Fred's help. Santa Claus also thought it would be a good opportunity to spend some time with his brother Fred, who he obviously doesn't hear from often. Fred was also in the some sort of trouble and needed Santa's help. Of course, Christmas is a time of giving, and who's better to seek help from than Santa Claus himself?

Santa's reindeer land in Chicago to pickup Fred off of his apartment building's rooftop. Off to the North Pole goes Fred to meet his brother Santa Claus. The North Pole is a magical beautiful place. Of course most of the North Pole's inhabitants are elves. All the Elves work full time in Santa's Christmas gifts factory. In Santa's Christmas gifts factory, the DJ only plays Christmas music all day long. Also all the Elves are shorter than Fred Claus. However Santa's little helper is tall and close to Fred's size, she's also very beautiful. Fred shares an Elf size bunk bed with another Elf. When Fred also first arrives to the North Pole he is attacked by a gang of mobster Elves which is very amusing.

Fred Claus is a great movie. It's a must see Christmas movie. While it might initially look like every other Christmas movie, Vince Vaughn gives it that unique edge. Also Vince Vaughn's humor is very original and entertaining for kids and adults. While in certain respects it's a little similar to Will Ferrell's Christmas Movie Elf it still has an original script and unique Christmas humor. Paul Giamatti also does a great job play Nick "Santa" Claus. The well-known rapper Ludacris also appears in the movie as the DJ of Santa's Christmas toy factory. While the movie has received mixed reviews, it's still worth seeing since it reminds the viewer of that great warm fuzzy Christmas time feeling.
