Fred Phelps of "God Hates America" to Picket Jerry Falwell's Funeral

Westboro Baptist Preacher Claims Falwell in "Hell"

Lea Barton
Fred Phelps, the head of the Westboro Baptist Church, plans to picket and protest at the funeral of televangelist and Liberty University founder Jerry Falwell, who died Tuesday at age 73. Falwell, the leader of the political organization the Moral Majority and frequent political spokesperson for the religious right on political matters, was found unconscious in his office at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia this morning. He was pronounced dead after transport to a local hospital according to the Associated Press.

The Reverend Fred Phelps of Westboro Baptist Church developed the website "God Hates America," which chronicles Phelps' perceptions of sin and evil in the United States. He posits that the reason for such events as the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the protracted war in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the Amish schoolhouse shootings in Pennsylvania stems from the United States' tolerance of homosexuality.

Phelps and his followers frequently stage protests and pickets at funerals of fallen soldiers, protesting with megaphones and large signs, claiming that "God Hates Fags" and "God Hates America" and so forth. On his website, GodHatesAmerica.com, he lists flyers that can be downloaded and prints, which detail Biblical explanations for various events such as September 11. His website also details why such celebrities and political figures as Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, Coretta Scott King, and Reggie White are in, as Phelps states, "hell."

Phelps is no fan of the recently deceased televangelist, Jerry Falwell. In a press release on Phelps' website, he states:

"WBC will preach at the memorial service of the corpulent false prophet Jerry Falwell, who spent his entire life prophesying lies and false doctrines like 'God loves everyone'.

There is little doubt that Falwell split Hell wide open the instant he died. The evidence is compelling, overwhelming, and irrefragable. To wit:

1. Falwell was a true Calvinistic Baptist when he was a young preacher in Springfield, Missouri, and sold his soul to Free-Willism (Arminianism) for lucre.
2. Falwell bitterly and viciously attacked WBC because of WBC's faithful Bible preaching -- thereby committing the unpardonable sin -- otherwise known as the sin against the Holy Ghost.
3. Falwell warmly praised Christ-rejecting Jews, pedophile-condoning Catholics, money-grubbing compromisers, practicing fags like Mel White, and backsliders like Billy Graham and Robert Schuler, etc. All for lucre -- making him guilty of their sins."

Phelps and Falwell have a history of animosity dating back to the 1990s, according to an October 24, 1998 article in the Topeka Capitol-Journal, when Phelps protested the funeral of Matthew Shepard, a gay man murdered in Montana. Falwell expressed disgust at Phelps' chanting of "God hates fags" at the funeral, and stated that "He [Phelps]'s a first-class nut."

The Reverend Jerry Falwell's funeral has not been scheduled as of this writing.

God does not hate people, He hates the sins we do. He gave His Only Son to die for us, so that we could have chance for eternal life with Him. This 'hate message' is sooo wrong in sooo many ways. Not only it contradicts Bible, but also gives an impression that christians are mean and unforgiving people...
I wish them to find the real God and spend their life loving, not hating people.
If they care about sins so much, they can tell people about their sins with love and show them they care, and if soemone doesn't agree, they can only tell them where it'll lead them, pray for them, but not hate them!!!
    God Bless!!!

I admire they're persistence, but i dont admire they're persistance in their hypocritical acts.
If God hates us, then why did he create the earth? are we just sent here on suicide missions?
Isnt pride a deadly sin? yet they roam around boasting that everyone is doomed. If you watch all the documentaries and journalist interviews with any person in that cult, they try to avoid the question and outright insult complete strangers. I dont think thats very Christlike or Godlike.
If they hate the world cause they worship the dead by having funerals, then they wont mind if we kill phelps. Furthermore, if they believe in Christ and God, isnt Christ physically dead? yet they supposedly worship him by spreading the word that we're all going hell?

Unfortuantly Phelps, brain washed his kids and his posterity, to think in a twisted way, and the Kids have to suffer continual torment. If you watch any documentary/journalist interview, you can see that deep inside, the children kinda crave for an

I could not believe this man and his beliefs. I watched the tv show that he has airing & was disgusted. He is the biggest farce of a human being that I have ever listened to. He looks as if he resembles the DEVIL in my opinion. He is so screwed up and GOD help those little ones that are following him. He apparently has missed out on being loved by anyone because he acts like hate is the only thing he believes in. I can't stand him!!!!!!!! He will be the one burning in hell, not us.

Wow... isn't that the pot calling the kettle black? Phelps is not an example Christianity. Everyone has sinned, and I judge no one, but that man is an example of how NOT to be a Christian. That man is so filled with anger and hate it is disgusting. God doesn't hate anyone.

Interesting. The fact that Falwell rejected Phelps and his way of thinking actually makes me respect him a little. I was never ever a fan of Falwell's while he was alive, and I do not miss him in the slightest. All the same Phelps disgusts me even more with his heartless protests of those who are deceased. I heard he did the same thing at Heath Ledger's funeral because of his performance in "Brokeback Mountain." Yo Phelps, God doesn't hate America, he just pities people like you who don't know any better!

This family must have some issues, that's for sure! I am embarrassed to say I live in Topeka. Great article!

Phelps couldn't spell Bible let alone read it! heres some scripture for the false profit John 3:16 for god so loved the World, that he gaveth his only begotten son, that whoever shall believith in him shall not parish but have eternal life!

though i do not support relationships from the opposite sex, i do not support blasphomy either for god says that all sin is the same in his eyes the only one he will not forgive is Blasphamy. and by phelps and his cult followers assuming they have the authority from god to judge even when in the BIBLE god says thall shall not judge for no man is perfect and it is man that god shall judge! that is called blasphamy to assume that they are god! and Blasphamy is the unforgiven sin ! so guess what phelps pack up ur cult and it seems that god has a nice little place in hell for all of you as well!
