Free 411 Calls and Text Messaging

karen
Have you ever heard of not paying for a 411 call or sending a text message? I hadn't either before! I mean, come on, we live in the United States. Whoever has heard of anything being passed out or given for free must be lying, right? That's what I thought too until I found out that there is such a thing as "free" in America.

Are you always on the go and needing directory assistance because there's no internet access around? You've probably heard of calling 411 for directory assistance. But you're probably also aware that they charge a buck or two for every call made. Good news for you because there is now free directory assistance! The number is 1-800-FREE411. What's the catch? Listening to a couple of advertisements. The company is supported by sponsors, so in order to keep their services free of charge for people like you, they have ads that play while you're waiting to speak to the live operator.

I tried calling the number myself and it worked perfectly fine! Of course, I had to listen to an advertisement before I got the number that I requested, but in my opinion, it was totally worth it since I didn't have to pay the two bucks that I would've had to pay if I had simply dialed 411. The company's website promises to not sell your phone number and other private information, so it's trustworthy and worth a try. There's also another free directory assistance number that I found, but haven't yet tried myself. The number is 1-800-411METRO. However, if you do happen to have internet access, you can always just use the Yahoo Yellow Pages. Happy calling on the road!

Did you know that you can text message people online free of charge? If you text message a lot and go over the limit on your plan, then text messaging online isn't such a bad idea. Of course, it would require a computer and internet access, but it's worth it. Ten cent text messages add up to costing a lot. If you cut half of that by sending outgoing messages online for free, then you would be less likely go to over the limit. I recommend you to check out txtdrop.com and gizmosms.com to take advantage of their free text messaging services! And if you have AOL Instant Messenger, also known as AIM, then you can now text message your buddies free of charge! Just open an empty chat box and type in +1 in the box that you're supposed to put person's screename that you want to instant message. Afterwards, you type in the person's entire phone number including area code. And of course, you type what you want to text message them in the box where you usually type in to send instant messages and ta-da! Just like magic. And it's completely free, so try it out today!

Nowadays, cellular phone carriers such as Verizon and Sprint allow their customers to text message other people from their websites for free as well. But if you're not a Verizon or Sprint carrier, then you can try the methods that I mentioned above. Have fun text messaging your friends! Free of charge!

Remember, there is such a thing as "free" in America. You just have to search high and low for it.
