Free Activities and Events in Indianapolis IN

Anytime is good time to explore your environment; however, the Summer is always a more inviting and a fun time to get to know your environment better. Here are a list of places around the city of Indianapolis which is great for both visitors and natives.

Holliday Park & Nature Center

Holliday park is located at: 6363 Spring Mill Road, Indianapolis, IN. It's a park, picnic site with a nature center, and a great place to be among nature. It a great place for the family. There is a lot to see and do. One can go for hikes along the nature trail or long walks around the perimeter of the park. The Nature Center has lots of fun indoor and outdoor activities for children of all ages.

The Children's Museum

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is a great place for a family outing. It's fun, exciting, educational and eventful; always a lot see and do. It can get a little pricy for larger families; however, they offer yearly memberships. However, they do offer free days, free family nights, free parking at the museum garage, and access to the library and the museum store without access to the museum itself. There is a lot to do in both the Info library and the museum store. In addition, there is also a group rate. There is a 20 percent discount for a group of 20 people or more. Below is a list of the free days and the free family days:

Target Free Family Night

Open free for Families the 1st Thursday of each month
from 4 p.m.-8 p.m.

Youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Group Rate

Groups save 20% on admission; however reservations must be made in advance and a minimum of 20 people.

There is a requirement of one chaperone for every 10 youth.

A Group Admission includes visits to all interactive galleries and a visit to either a Space Quest Planetarium show or a Lilly Theater presentation.

Indiana Museum of Art (IMA)

The Indianapolis Museum of Art is a place to explore, be educated, with history, a place of wonder. There is so much going on that you can never be bored.

The IMA makes its grounds available for free to families, educators, students and all interested in using the grounds, exhibitions and programs as an educational tool. However, all school tours require a three week notice and request can be submitted by clicking here. School tours are: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10am to 3pm; Friday 11am to 3pm. After school and weekend tours are available, however, a 4 week notice is required. More so, an adult is required for every 10 child 13 years of age and under.

The museum will offset the cost of bus transportation up to $150.00 per day on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The IMA also has a "Starlite: Drop-in-art-Making" session outside their Star Studio every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4pm. Participants can do art outdoors, for free, using their own ideas or inspired by other art ideas on display. This workshop is available from now until September 26, 2010.

The IMA also host a member's night free on the first Thursday of every month. Members can enjoy tours and a collection of rich museum art with family and friends on member's night, monthly.

White River State Park:

The White River State Park is a great way for natives and visitors to enjoy all that is great about Indianapolis. It is a great place to plan family events and outings and so much more... There is much to see and do. It is home to the Indiana State Museum, Victory Field, White River Gardens, IMAX Theater, Indianapolis Zoo, Eiteljorg Museum of American Natives and Western Art, and NCAA Hall of Champions.

Conner Prairie

Conner Prairie provides its visitors with a glimpse of what life in the mid-1800s used to be like. The buildings and costumes are interesting and fun and so is the overall environment. It's a wonderful experience for the entire family.
