An email signature is one of a few select methods of free advertising. While it may seem as though it is not very important, and is simply a professional way to end and email, it is often overlook as an advertising tool.
As with any free advertising tool, it is beneficial to you and your business to use it to its maximum and full potential. Here are a few ways in which you can get the most out of your email signature;
Your full name is a good starting point for an email signature. Putting your first and second name is good practice, unless you would like to, there is not much need for a middle name. As a good way of advertising your skills, it is useful to put any letters before or after your name, such as if you are a Doctor, Accountant or have a Degree with Honours. This sub consciously advertises your qualifications to potential clients and can look very impressive.
Secondly, put your occupational title underneath your name, if you are a manager or high ranking individual, this also appears professional in advertising your skill level.
Thirdly, if you have your own business, include the name of your business, this is a constant reminder of your company name, the more times a client see it, the more likely they are to remember it.
Beneath this, it is a practical idea to include your business statement, a way of constantly reminding your client that you are here to help them and why you are so useful to them. Again, the more times they read this the more likely they are to remember you when they need you.
It is then an effective idea to list your contact details one by one, beneath one another. The more contact information you have, the easier and more convenient it is for your client to contact you by their most suited method. You may want to include an office number, a mobile number, a fax number, an email address, any instant message ID's and your website address. This gives them plenty of options to choose from.
Finally you can add your company logo. This is a good visual reminder to your client of who you are. The same principle applies in that, the more times they see your company logo the more likely they are to remember you and to log onto your website.
These tips maximize your signatures advertising potential, and give potential and current clients regular reminders of who you are, what you do, your skills and qualifications, all of your contact details and a visual reminder of your website, a fantastic free advertising tool.
