Quarterback
Matt Cassel was traded to the Chiefs along with Mike Vrabel for a second round pick (number 34 overall). The Chiefs are excited about this addition and many people think that they may have stolen Cassel. Though he started 15 games for the Patriots and won 10 of those starts (and the one he took over for Tom Brady in), he still doesn't have a lot of experience.
Kerry Collins re-signed with the Tennessee Titans. They hope that he can provide a solid quarterback for the team again next year and lead them to another playoff appearance.
Dan Orlovsky signed to be the backup for the Houston Texans. Orlovsky started a handful of games in Detroit, but failed to win a game. He is probably best remembered for running out of the back of the end zone in a game and not realizing until afterward that he had just caused a safety.
Sage Rosenfels was traded from the Houston Texans to the Minnesota Vikings. Sage wants a chance to start and though he filled in for Matt Schaub last year, he wants the opportunity to be "the guy" and not the backup to "the guy".
Running Backs
Brandon Jacobs has resigned a long term deal with the New York Giants. The Giants return the man that led their running game, but will miss Derrick Ward if he gets away.
Fred Taylor has signed with New England Patriots who want to see him have a few good years. The Patriots were hit hard with injuries last year, but have a few running backs on their roster that are more than serviceable.
Maurice Morris will be playing for the Detroit Lions next year. He lost his starting job to Julius Jones last year when he was injured and never quite got back to his initial form.
Correll Buckhalter will call Denver home after signing a deal with the Broncos. After backing up Brian Westbrook for years, Buckhalter is out to prove that he still has some tread on the tires and deserves a shot at a starting spot.
Tony Richardson will be the New York Jets full back again next year. The reason behind much of Thomas Jones' success last year, he will lead Jones into battle again next year.
Moran Norris resigned with San Francisco as a full back. The 49ers liked his play last year and brought him back.
Wide Receivers
Antonio Bryant will be back with the Buccaneers next year. The Bucs liked his production last year and wanted to keep him in Tampa. He is one of the better young receivers on the market and it was wise to keep him.
Bryant Johnson signed a deal with the Lions which will have him playing in the Motor City after an average year last year in San Francisco.
Jabar Gaffney will be a Bronco next year. He follows Josh McDaniels to Denver and hopes to be a strong part of the Broncos great young receiving corp.
Michael Clayton will be a Buccaneer again next year after re-signing with the Bucs. He hopes that playing with Antonio Bryant again will help bolster his production.
Brandon Jones will be leaving Tennessee and heading for the West Coast. He signed a deal with the San Francisco 49ers where he will likely become the number 1 receiver - if only the 49ers had someone to throw to him...
Tight Ends
Chris Baker signed with a former rival, the New England Patriots. After catching passes from Brett Favre last year, he will be catching Tom Brady's throws this year.
Jim Kleinsasser resigned with Minnesota who loved him last year and hope that he will be a big part of their continued building process.
Dan Campbell left Detroit and headed south. He ended up in New Orleans and will hope to be a part the Saints rebound effort.
Joel Dreessen re-signed with the Texans. Though he will back up Owen Daniels if/when Daniels is re-signed, he likes playing in Houston and Houston loves his potential.
Offensive Lineman
Jordan Gross signed a long term deal with the Panthers before the start of free agency. By resigning him, the Panthers have solidified a very solid offensive line.
Stacy Andrews left Cincinnati to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles hope he will be able to pull it together and produce after an injury marred, sub-par season in Cincinnati after having the Franchise tag placed on him last year.
Vernon Carey was brought back to Miami. He will be a solid part of their line.
Jon Stinchcomb re-signed with the Saints and will be coming back to New Orleans again next year.
Frank Omiyale will be playing in the Windy city next year after leaving Carolina for Chicago.
Derrick Dockery signed a deal with Washington. The Redskins are hoping that their spending spree will lead them to the playoffs. Dockery is a good player, but Washington's attempts to buy a playoff team have failed time and time again.
Stephen Peterman re-signed with Detroit.
Chris Kemoeatu rejected an offer from the Jets to return to the Steelers. The Steelers, who usually let lineman walk away and bring up a guy from within their system, decided to brink Kemoeatu back.
Kynan Forney signed with the Chargers to play guard for another term.
Jason Brown left Baltimore to play center in St. Louis. The Rams line needed serious help and bringing in Brown will be immediate improvement.
Jeff Saturday will be returning to Indianapolis again next year. Losing him would have been a huge blow to the Colts.
Brad Meester was re-signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Though the Jags line was porous last year, Meester was very reliable.
Geoff Hangartner will be moving from Carolina to Buffalo.
It was a busy weekend and many teams improved, some just stayed the same, and a few got worse. Over the next couple of weeks many players will move and teams will try to improve enough so that they might be a Super Bowl contender this fall.
