Free Aluminum Can Crafts: DIY Wedding Banners Materials
4 Aluminum Cans per Foot of Banner Desired (soda cans, beer cans, any type of aluminum can)
Metal Snips or Heavy Duty Scissors for Cutting the Cans
White or Off White spray paint
Clear Coat Spray Paint
Hammer
Wire Chain (thin Gauge)
Nail
Permanent Marker
Heart Stencil
Free Aluminum Can Crafts Wedding Banners Step 1: Begin by cutting the aluminum cans for the project. You will cut along one side of the can, and then cut off the top and the bottom of the cans. This will leave you with a strip of aluminum from each can.
Free Aluminum Can Crafts Wedding Banners Step 2: Using the hammer, pound out each aluminum strip into a flat piece with the printed or colored side facing down.
Free Aluminum Can Crafts Wedding Banner Step 3: Using the heart stencil and the permanent marker, trace as many hearts as you can on the back side of the aluminum cans strips that you have flattened out. The heart tracing should be on the side of the aluminum which has the color or the images.
Free Aluminum Can Crafts Wedding Banner Step 4: Using the tin snips or very strong scissors, cut out the heart shapes that you have traced on the aluminum strips. You will usually have about 4 heart shapes on each strip although depending on the size stencil that you use there may be more or less.
Free Aluminum Can Crafts Wedding Banner Step 5: Using the white spray paint, begin painting the aluminum hearts on the clean aluminum side. Two coats of white paint should be sufficient. After the paint has dried completely you should also apply two coats of clear coat to the hearts as well.
Free Aluminum Can Crafts Wedding Banner Step 6: Using the nail, begin nailing holes into the aluminum can wedding hearts one at a time. The hole may either be at the top of the hearts in the center or you may place one hole on each side of the hearts. This is how the hearts will be attached and strung together to create the banner.
Free Aluminum Can Crafts Wedding Banner Step 7: Using the small gauge wire, string the hearts together to create the wedding banner. If you placed holes in the top of the hearts, you will need small pieces of wire to string into the hole and then attach that to the long wire that will create the wedding banner. For best results, string the hearts every 4 inches all the way across the wedding banner.
