Cathy Pelekakis
It is that time of year when everyone should get their free credit reports from the three credit reporting agengies, Experian, TransWorld and Equifax. You are entitled by state law in the following States to receive your credit report annually for free, Maryland, Colorado, Georgia, Massachuettes, New Jersey and Vermont. In addition all citizens are eligible to receive one free copy annually of all three credit reports. Do not pay for these reports through sites, they are FREE

You can use the the following web site to obtain your free credit report http//: www.annualcredit report.com, remmber that the first one is free.
When you get your report here are some tips to review:

- Assure that no one else is using your SSN, i.e. Identy theft, check each report to assure that they are accurate and that the only applications for fredit on there are the ones that you made.

-Review report, up to 70% of the reports ahve some errors on them, if you find an error write a separte letter to each of the three companies, include the error that you found and a copy of your credit report. Follow up to make sure that the corrections have been made

- Put a fraud alert on all three of the reporting agencies. This assures that they have to notify you before they accept any credit applications.
Experian's web site is www.experian.com/fraud, Equifax is www.exuifax.com and transUnion is www.transunion.com

- Check the address, telephone number, etc, in case you have moved you want to assure that your report reflects your current address

- Compare the three reports to assure that all are reflecting the same information, since all three are separate companies not all will look alike. When appliying for a loan, if you are denied, that may be because the information is incorrectly reported.
